Weren't impeachment inquiries exactly the same thing they've been doing for 3 years already? What's changed?

Weren't impeachment inquiries exactly the same thing they've been doing for 3 years already? What's changed? My assumption is that there is knowledge inside the Democratic caucus that RBG is not long for the world. This is about pre-loading a "No President under impeachment investigation should be allowed to nominate a SCOTUS candidate" narrative.

I'm one of the many Democrats who didn't want to see impeachment proceedings, but if the facts of this latest episode are as they seem, there's not much choice. This couldn't be allowed to pass.

It’s a great time for cable news. Lots of opinions with just a smattering of valid data.
It is interesting that valid data does show that he offered the services of his personal lawyer and the attorney general to help a foreign nation investigate a political rival and seems to see that transcript as an exoneration. That is weird beyond belief. He is a bizarre character. It’s a real WTF moment.

For those who don't have the patience to read the entire transcript, I've prepared this handy infographic:

It's a strange age we live in. Presidents used to be given a lot of discretion in what they said not being made public knowledge. We hear later about the Johnsons, and the Kennedys etc. Trump's a slime-ball. But none of them are squeaky clean, I suspect. I suppose this is just further-down-the-road of Bill Clinton's indiscretions. There is no sanctity any more.
Who would want to be president? ePaul?

If he has crossed the line, then impeach away. I just want to know if a trial in the Senate is like a trial in regular court. I'm no lawyer but I watched a few episodes of Perry Mason and it would seem that things even on the periphery can be introduced and testified to under oath and penalty of perjury. Would it work that way or are things narrowly defined with no latitude?
My point is: I want to know what Hunter Biden did for his 3 million. What did Joe do to get his son that money? The CBS news told me yesterday in no uncertain terms that "there is no evidence that the Bidens did anything wrong". Oh really? You know that because you looked or you know that because you couldn't be bothered to look?
If there is a "trial" in the Senate can these questions be raised?
If they include the obstruction of justice charge in the impeachment can whoever is handling his defense in the Senate call Comey, Clapper, et al to the stand? Can they examine the FISA warrants? Can they subpoena Joseph Mifsud? There all all kinds of questions I would love to have answers to. It seems like the spinning and the lies die down somewhat when people are on the stand under oath.
I would love to know if Trump was really the target of a coup orchestrated by elements of the Obama State Department and FBI or is that Fox News bullshit?
If the Defense has the latitude to subpoena and get depositions and put people on the stand, then by all means, let's clear the air and see who are the bigger liars.
Go for it, bitches.

I'd be willing to bet my left you-know-what that Comey, Clapper. et. al. are not losing any sleep at night over the prospect of testifying. Neither is anybody from the Obama State Department. The GOP Senate is already making noises about dismissing the House Articles of Impeachment as quickly as humanly possible, so we know that Mitch and Company have zero interest in clearing the air and seeing who are the bigger liars. That's because they already know the answer to your question.

I'm one of the many like maybe 9 or so Democrats who didn't want to see impeachment proceedings, but if the facts of this latest episode are as they seem, there's not much choice. This couldn't be allowed to pass. I'm trying to process this latest flap. Keep in mind I sort of semi checked out of paying attention to national politics quite awhile ago to focus more on doors and buying guitars and fly fishing. I think Don is correct in that this episode can't be allowed to pass just procedurally(SP?). It seems like something the system was designed to trigger off of. Here's my question - if Joe Biden was not running for the office would Trump trying to coerce this same investigation in to a US citizen be impeachable? Surely this kind of shit goes on all the time? If a guy can't skim a few bucks or set a relative up for life here and there peddling influence then the only other thing to be a politician for are the hookers and the free health care right? Anyway - my guess is impeachment filed, will go nowhere, and assuming he doesn't set a nuke off on US soil or get caught in bed with a young boy this increases turnout for Trump in the next election cycle. Also Joe Biden gets hurts worse than Teflon Don as the facts are scrutinized. If this chain of events unfolds then the question is did Trump orchestrate it?

The outrage is on the assumption that Biden is innocent. If you switched the character's parties, those who are outraged would be defending a sitting president for getting behind prosecuting corruption.
