Does anyone here listen to podcasts and have any they recommend? Now that I have a commute and I’m taking more walks, I need some aural distractions. I’m not really interested in true crime or politics (which apparently make up 90% of podcasts), but other than that I’m open to ideas.

I subscribe to many dozens. Recently I've been listening to various old Crowd Science episodes amongst other things. It's a BBC offering.
I have discovered some of my shows through Podcast Radio Hour, itself a podcast. Clips and recommendations and discussion with guests of their favourites.

I confess that when I want a non-musical attention-sponge and I've already heard the news (MPR or BBC), I go to an audiobook. (The 20 Aubrey-Maturin novels alone would keep me busy for a long, long time.) But if I were looking for non-politics podcasts, I'd check the BBC catalog--many of the segments I hear on the World Service seem to have podcast equivalents or extensions. Their history material (often based on their archival recordings) is particularly interesting.

I think I may have subscribed to a few but I don’t listen to them. I mostly don’t care to hear opinions and generally prefer reading to listening. I don’t relish the thought of being influencerized.

If you were more interested in popular country music I would suggest “Cocaine and Rhinestones,” a podcast by Tyler Mahan Coe, son of David Allen Coe (a country musician). The first season especially, as the episodes on Bobbie Gentry, banned music (I.e., The Pill) Anna especially the horrifying tale of Spade Cooley and how he brutally tortured and murdered his wife were excellent. Most podcasters are not influencers, as far as I understand the term. Just people with an interest who want to share it. I’ve even recorded a few for a friend.

I don’t always have the patience to listen to a book - I don’t mind breaking up an hour or hour and a half segment into two, but studio books require a greater commitment than I am willing to give.

I am interested in (historically, not current) popular country music. That podcast may be something I’d like. I’ll check it out. My situation is that I am incurably curious and most of my reading is non-fiction. Reading about real stuff is far more absorbing to me than most made-up stories. This means I am already familiar with the stories of Bobbie Gentry, banned music, Spade Cooley, and many others. Still, I’ll give it a try.

There are ancouple of folk music podcasts, some just interviews, some a mix of interviews and songs. One that goes into the writing process.
Also, Bluegrass ones for those that like that sort of thing ;-)

I am interested in a lot of stuff but I can't figure out how to do podcasts. So when I walk daily I figured out how to hear Iowa Public Radio so I'm a slave to that. Fortunately I usually enjoy what I'm hearing.

John, every so often I listen to the Politics Girl Podcast. Leigh McGowen, a transplanted Canadian living in the US (who loves democracy and this country enough to have become a citizen), is a no-nonsense observer of political life here. She is whip-smart and articulate and I know that DJT supporters don't agree with her analyses of what is going on in our country, but I think her clear-headed assessments of the recent past, present, and the future of US politics are spot-on.
(Flame shields up!)

Podcasts bore me. Listening to people yammer on and on is not my cup of tea. If I wanted to listen to more political crapola, well, I would be worried about myself. That said, I sometimes listen to podcasts from Fretboard Journal because they are at least about topics in which I have some interest. Once in a while I listen to Defending Indiana because it can be be funny. Of course, there really is no defense for Indiana. Podcasts are trendy. I hate trendy.

A trend that's at least 12 years old... I prefer podcasts that are scripted and edited. Podcasts of two or more people chatting are not nearly as enjoyable to me. The FB Journal podcasts are pretty good, although their focus on amps doesn't interest me. I am episodes 48 & 76, and my wife is episode 70. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/romcom-love/id1534152965

I don’t understand why anyone would waste their time listening to a podcast when they could waste their time playing sudoku on their iPad or building a Porsche 911 for when they win the lottery.

Mike As Dustin Hoffman once said, "I'm walkin' here!" I run into things if I try to walk and maneuver on a screen.

You might find this podcast interesting. The latest is a multipart discussion -- diverse views of the church/citizenship thing. whitehorseinn.org/
