And personally, I don’t believe “racism” is a useful or accurate term for the issues, social and political, that at face value involve “race”.
(race and racism are sloppy terms as there is only one human race).
Rather, the contentions and contentiousness that involve “race” are social and economic disputes that involve conflicts and disagreements of interest and benefit, not biology.
(for example the conflict between rural white and urban black is not one of “race” but economics and “perceived” cultures, (and details of government programs and "solutions".)

And, sorry Major for the "for Christ's sake", but, man, you caught me off guard. I did not see the "Paul called John and Pete racists" thing coming and I didn't react well.

But, race is a tool used by both parties. And... ah, the hell with it.

"The Astros just through [sic] a combined no-hitter."
See? God's in his heaven. All's right with the world.

No, it's not. You jumped to the conclusion that your correlation equalled causation (even cornflake pointed this out) and then included me in the accusation of racism as that cause, and all but James here read it that way. And now you have the audacity and hubris to post 15 paragraphs explaining why YOU have been wronged by our misreading you. What a whiner.

I give up.
I do not think you or Pete are racists. I did not say you were. I do think the manipulators behind the "Stolen Election" are using every tool at their disposal to create distrust in our elections, elections that are at the heart of our democracy. And that is what I said.
The suspicions and distrust between rural/urban, white/black are there and politicians and political manipulators do seek to exploit them. Even more so, create them.

And, sorry Major for the "for Christ's sake", but, man, you caught me off guard. I did not see the "Paul called John and Pete racists" thing coming and I didn't react well. No damage done as far as I'm concerned. I read what I read about 10 times but I couldn't believe what I thought I was seeing. That thread got locked so I made my comment in your new one. We all get different things from this forum and come here for different reasons. The context for me and my reaction to your post goes back to Tramp and Omaha and losing those two guys over a similar "racism" clash. I come here for the amazing minds(yours most definitely included) and felt that Tramp and Omaha leaving was a great loss to this group. My next personal swallow hard moment was shortly after the Jan 6 insurrection event when.....someone.....posted an article about some white Republican politician not making room in the panic room for the black guy or some such. There were some likes and "yeahs" over that turd and the obvious sweeping inference. It's not every one and it's not all the time but there is most certainly an occasional whiff of condescension here from the majority "left leaners" towards those more conservative forum members. There are more of us "right leaners" than just the several vocal/abrasive ones that are usually in the middle of the fray. I don't know how others deal with it but occasionally I see things here that make me wonder why I'm spending time and energy coming to a place where some majority of the members might think I'm a racist, or a homophobe, or exploiter of the downtrodden and the environment, or whatever, because I usually vote Republican. I choose thus far just to recognize the positives far out weigh the negatives. It's those amazing minds. And the food recipes. OK. I need to go unload a lumber truck and figure out what to do with 2 tons of horse shit. Take care farmer.

"I need to go unload a lumber truck and figure out what to do with 2 tons of horse shit."
Can you sell it to the people who come up with political ads?

My dad’s brother Donald used to tell a story about when a senatorial candidate was visiting the Indian reservation and in his speech made promise after promise about what he would do for them if re-elected.
After each one the crowd excitedly screamed “ugalamug!!!” In unison.
After the speech the senator flush with the enthusiasm of those gathered was walking back to his car near the horse barn when the Chief remarked “be careful you don’t step in the ugalamug senator.”

Ironically, I was pondering a thread about how the Democratic party, whether through action or merely through rhetoric, real or perceived, was pushing lower and middleclass white people out of the party. The hook was going to be that if I were to go to the DFL convention in Mpls this year, I would feel like I had target on my back and would probably hang out near the exit.
I decided against it to avoid controversy... then this.

And John and Pete, I admit I intended to ridicule and undermine your positions on the election, to fullest extent.
But I absolutely did not intend it as an assault on your character as a person and fellow earthling. I think you both are top notch characters with rock solid character. I do think you are fucking nuts on some issues, but that is another matter entirely and I apologize sincerely if the one crossed over to the other. Which it appears it did. Sorry.
And to others here, I too often forget that when I get in a pissing match with Aqua my spray might hit some innocents on the sidelines.
Oh, and I apologize for saying "pissing match". Sort of. It works so well...

my spray might hit some innocents on the sidelines. When we went to see Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt last week the location of our seats and the aiming of the stage lights was such that you could see every bit of spittle launched and let's just say John Hiatt is an incredibly moist dude. It was actually a little disconcerting. Last night at band practice we started learning Perfectly Good Guitar and I'm using a music stand with the chords and lyrics like us old people tend to do. On our second time through I up the energy on the vocals. Look down mid song and see spit bubbles all over the paper. So...like....I understand.

It took about 18 months for the 2020 voter participation and preference changes by demographics to be reasonably solidly analysed. A lot of anecdotal evidence and speculation, while quite interesting can fail to manifest in the eventual findings. (As well as the size of the overall turnout, the shifts in non-college educated, female and significantly, suburban voting that transpired in 2020 were not, as far as I can recall, widely seen coming. I might be mis-remembering though) Some trends through previous elections can be gleaned and Pew seem quite good at that. Here's that link again. It is not exactly as complete and comprehensive a review as might be wished for. I haven't read the full report but there is a link to a PDF of it www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/06/30/behind-bidens-2020-victory/
