Good morning 27F-35F cloudy. Breakfast and shopping. A little slee shopping due to a Trader Joe's trip yesterday, one always finds must have items there. Then shop time before naptime. OK, I cannot translate "slee shopping."

En lo profundo de mi corazon I hate the Amazon This parcel work by the USPS has thrown off my circadian rhythms. It's just wrong on a Sunday to look out the window and see a Postal Service truck buzzing around the neighborhood.

Amazon delivers Amazon here. There are 3-4 different Amazon trucks in the neighborhood several times a day. The mailman brought us 3 cards and a cheese catalog yesterday.

Electronic newspapers read. Coffee brewed. Pills taken. Yogurt and blueberries consumed. Later there will be an omelet containing onion, Italian sausage and cheddar. Then a quick outing to fuel the motorcar and pick up a prescription before settling in to watch the Vikings attempt to tame the Lions. Not a certainty, by any means.

A beautiful sunny white day. No wind to speak of. Slept in as we got home a bit late from the cities last night.
It would be a perfect day for XC on the lake but I don’t trust the ice yet.

Let’s see, it’s Sunday. Made coffee, check. Did Wordle, check. Fill up my weekly pill minder, check. Only one big decision left to make, Thai take out for dinner or Costco lasagna for dinner? Leaning towards Thai, but will see what Nita wants.

Whilst hiking yesterday, on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail (built on a former railroad bed), i found a big ceramic insulator. The trains that operated on the rail line were electric and moved both people and freight.
After some research I learned that the insulator was part of a 34,500 volt system that powered the trains. Very lucky to find this after all the years since the rail line was abandoned, torn out and converted to a Nature Trail.
I plan to hike the same area this afternoon and see if I can find any other antiques.

It's been a mildly busy weekend of fun things so far. Friday night we went to Cincinnati to see the 50th anniversary tour of "Jesus Christ Superstar." That Andrew Lloyd Webber knows how to write some catchy songs. This production was nice in that the actor playing Jesus was up to the task of matching the Judas character's singing - the productions I've seen in the past (none of them live) usually feature a kick-butt Judas and an ultimately unsatisfying Jesus. A good part of that is how the musical is written - I think ALW clearly sympathized with Judas. Of course, I watch the show and wonder if I would have done anything differently in Judas' sandals. The dancing/choreography in this production was absolutely top notch, too. Really amazing.
Yesterday was going up to Indy to get rid of the d*mned Cadillac and to see a live broadcast of The Met Opera's "The Hours." A brand-new opera, based on the novel and the movie of the same name (Nicole Kidman won an Oscar for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf). I saw the movie when it first came out. Watching the performance, I found myself wishing I had read Woolf's book "Mrs. Dalloway" as it plays a big part in the story. I was very so-so on most of the music - I prefer more "melodic" music. A hazard of listening to modern "classical" music, I suppose. But Kelli O'Hara was very good (one of my wife's favorite performers), and Joyce DiDinato was stunning. Interesting to learn (to me, anyway) that we're the same age and grew up 45 miles away from each other. She would also be a year ahead of Elana (Fremerman) James of Hot Club of Cowtown, who was also from Prairie Village. They went to different high schools, though.
Last night would have been going to see the local Philharmonic's holiday show, but we were tired after a couple of relatively full days. So, we camped out in the family room and watched Benicio Del Toro's new version of Pinocchio. Much darker than the Disney movie; very well done with nice voice acting. It's stop-motion animation. The tale takes place during the start of WWII in Italy, and the special "puppet" performance for Mussolini is a song I will try to work up for the next IdiotJam.
Last night also treated us to the spectacle of our daughter and SO struggling to make fudge. I don't know how it turned out, only that I have never attempted fudge because I'm pretty sure I'd screw it up. Especially without a candy thermometer.

England out of World Cup. Good game though and the team are being rightfully congratulated for their undoubted skill and excellent demeanour. A likeable lot. Shame someone has to lose.
Lucky first guess on Wordle.

OK, I cannot translate "slee shopping." Sorry LESS shopping. Not only does it take me a long time to type things I need a LOT of self editing as I tend to type words sort of backwards or leave letters out, I think them, I just don't type them.

Reminds me of an old joke:
Written on the wall of a men's room stall:
I like grils.
That's girls, you idiot.
Yes, but what about us grils?

I am a very positive Vikings fan. But, I really expect a reckoning and a waxing today at the hands of the Lions. The Vikings just don't have much talent on defense. Bereft is the word. As for the Lions, their "Roar" has been Restored. As prophesied, so it comes to pass. In very convincing fashion no less. Go Lions!

I went to Waterloo for grocery shopping today to get out of sitting around the house by myself on this dreary cloudy day. I was to post about yesterday, which was spent playing Santa all day at the cat shelter, but instead spent an hour on the phone with the internet provider figuring out why I didn't have any service.

A bit gray at the beach on Saturday. Today was sunnier and had huge waves, but, of course, I did not take pictures of that!

Nice, though. The water might be freezing and the sky gray, but you can't change the sound of the surf and the smell of the ocean water.

my wife saw the picture and said, "I don't think I could live that close to water that I couldn't get in every day." I disagree, as I think I lean towards scenery that might kill me if given the chance.
