Good morning. Slept a little later than usual—Her Grace is not feeling well and is taking a day off from school so that gave me an extra 45 minutes before the body clock said "enough."
On the agenda: a light breakfast, and then in the late morning a walk around the corner with a longtime family friend to the Brooklyn Museum to see the extensive exhibition of Paul McCartney's photos from the 1960s. I intend to keep an eye out for any images containing photographers from the Ed Sullivan weekend to see if I can spot my father in any of them. www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/paul-mccartney

Good morning from the desert. The thermometer in the back yard says it's 60 degrees. The weather service predicts a high of 98.
Our church has a noon service on Wednesdays. The person who ordinarily assists with it can't be there so I'll do the readings and help serve communion. This evening we'll be back at church for the choir's year-end potluck dinner. It's my wife's activity but I know and like a lot of the people. Potluck dinners are always good. Almost everybody can make at least one good dish. Those who can't bring Kroger fried chicken. You can tell it's an Episcopal potluck because wine is available.

The lack of humidity strikes again. I have a number of guitars hanging on the wall in my study.
A year or so ago, the baritone top separated at the seam and had to be reglued.
Yesterday I picked up the Martin and the saddle fell off the guitar.
It turns out a section of the bridge surrounding the saddle slot had cracked and broke off. I found a sliver of the bridge inside the guitar.
The saddle slot disappeared.
Long story short is that my Martin 00028VS needs to have the entire bridge replaced.
The guitar has a lifetime Martin warranty, so today I am contacting Martin to see if they’ll cover this.

Paul, I don't think your warranty will cover this sort of damage. CF Martin may tell you that you should have had your guitars properly humidified and will categorize this as misuse or owner neglect. That company has tightened up its warranty parameters in recent years regarding what constitutes warranty work.
It's worth a shot anyway; you never know. They might be convinced that it was component failure... I'm just sayin'.

Paul, I will be surprised if Martin covers that since it is obviously humidity related. Your guitars need to be humidified all year long. Hanging them is nice, but it is a recipe for disaster in your climate. Martin warranties have never covered what they consider neglect and humidity issues fall in that category.
Gorgeous day here. All the huge Iowa storms missed us and it was calm all night. Today is cool, sunny, and breezy. Perfect in my book.

Bill, I was tired of the old avatar. I looked through a bunch of recent photos for a new one. Avatars need to be simple and have strong shapes. They also need to tolerate a square crop. This shot of a crow on the branch of a dead tree fit the bill better than anything else I had.

Martin changed their warranty back in the early 70s from Lifetime to Limited Lifetime. You need to have registered the guitar at the time of sale. If the shop you bought it at is still around check with them. Some shops do that for you at the time of sale. Even if you did not register the guitar it may get covered if you have the bill of sale. Take it to the local authorized Martin repair service shop and they may well help you as it's just a bridge replacement. |

Good morning.
52F-69F cloudy.
Tornados in MN, WI and IA yesterday. The worst was in Iowa but not close to Todd or Dub.
Got some water seeping down in the shop but not bad and I can still work. Lots of rain yesterday, really pissed off the cats.
DaWife had to go into work yesterday to clean out her desk that she hasn't used in two years. I don't know how much stuff she had there as it's still in the truck. Everyone else is getting notice that they will be moving back to the US Bank in July but my girl will be retired by then. This is a very unpopular move because people like working from home without the daily commute and the parking fees. I wonder if the Bank will offer people to stay working from home if they take a pay cut?

I got over abstinence in college. We spent a brief period attending a Presbyterian church and I was surprised when I was at a committee meeting at a restaurant and some of the committee ordered cocktails. The minister explained to me that wherever you see four Presbyterians you will see a fifth. We now attend a Disciples of Christ church which is nonchalant about alcohol. |
