A disaster for Biden. I've never seen anything like it. Usually the post-debate spin is: "My guy won." "No, my guy won.
Not this time. The post-debate talk from Democrats wasn't "My guy won". It was "OMG, what are we going to do? That was disaster." The mics weren't even cold and there was talk of an "Open Convention".
I expect by tomorrow there will be organized spin in place, but the immediate, unscripted reaction after the debate was telling, and there isn't any "day after" spin that can fix it... only time.
And if time leads to reflection, reflection will lead to an understanding that there is difference between (A) having the ability to confidently churn out a thousand words a minute under bright lights regardless of whether there is any sense or truth to them and (B) having the experience and judgement to make a measured and tempered decision when given the time to consider and examine the question.
Biden may or may not be losing his marbles, but all this debate told us is that he can't talk under pressure and that he can get rattled by a machinegunning stream of bullshit. And we learned that Trump can talk a mile a minute with confidence... as can a salesman selling timeshares in a Florida swamp or explaining all the wonderful financing options for that car of your dreams. But, we knew that.

But, for now, Trump supporters are elated and Democrats are despondent.
As for me...OPEN CONVENTION. WITH POPCORN.

Biden can't win. God help us if Trump does. I fear for our daughter and grandchildren.

But, for now, Trump supporters are elated and Democrats are despondent. As for me...OPEN CONVENTION. WITH POPCORN. The most unbelievable thing is happening right before the eyes of 300 million people and there's not a single thing anyone can do about it. My guess is that it's just the opposite. Democrats should be elated and Republicans should be despondent. I don't see any way that Biden remains the candidate. Republicans, on the other hand, are stuck with Trump.

Thank god for head colds. Without them at what straw would there be to grasp?

I'm embarrassed for our country.
The notion that this is the best we can do is surreal.

"The notion that this is the best we can do is surreal."
That's the main reason I found it painful to watch. This is what our republic has come to?

Remind me, who are the candidates? What a great country this is ! ! ! We can suffer through the "leadership" of either of these bozos. History shows us we've had some baddies before. Yeah, there are consequences for many during the ups and downs of bad decisions/policies. But the nation as a whole chugs on; great economic engine that it is. (Truthfully, I haven't watched the debate yet. I taped it. I was out singing songs last evening in a distillery. I played my political songs:
You made a promise. Said you’d be true If we kept the faith there was nothing we couldn’t do Now most nights you’re out Crusading for some cause that I don’t care about And when we talk, it’s all about you
Just say what you mean and mean what you say You know that the Devil’s in the details
I needed help; a favor from you You waste time on “politics,” and never followed through Said you’re sorry more than I can mention The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I’m warning you. You better get a clue
Just say what you mean and mean what you say I’m getting so tired of the games that you play There isn’t a love that’s too big to fail You know that the Devil’s in the Details
The Devil’s in the details)

We recorded it because we didn't want to watch during dinner. So far we've seen about the first half. Of the 4 people who spoke, I would choose either of the moderators for president over either of the candidates.
I thought the moderators were fair, which surprised me.

All they did was ask questions. Repeatedly, if necessary, because neither candidate seemed to respond directly to them. Does that entail moderating?

I sent an email to the White House with my thoughts. Why not share yours? Such emails do get read. The gist of mine was that the best thing Biden could do for our country now is to withdraw as a candidate. www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

Look, the real tragedy here is that those two bozos didn't get there on their own. People voted for them. They could have done otherwise. They could have demanded better.

I'm embarrassed too.
Also, I'm surprised that anyone is surprised by Joe's performance.
Did Trump answer more than two questions?
We are so hosed.

Well, I watched the first 20 minutes of the debate. I fast forwarded through most of Trump, because I know enough about him to have a solid opinion. But I watched painfully how Biden performed. Very sad sorry state of affairs.
I get texts every day from "Joe" asking for a contribution to help fight against Trump. I responded today to the last 2 texts I received, "I will contribute if Joe Biden bows out of the race. He's TOO OLD !"
We'll see if this goes anywhere. The Ds are backed into a corner. If they wait until the convention to nominate a candidate, then that candidate won't be on the Michigan ballot, because it'd be less than 90 days before the election. That's why the Ds were somehow going to "officially" nominate Joe in July before the convention.
They are in a world of hurt. . . . , as are we all.
(The only realistic option for Ds is if Joe voluntarily bows out. But ego lives strong in politicians and sports figures, long after they should retire.)

Peter, I think the idea of regulation to ensure that we have clean air and water goes beyond the politics of the Left and the Right. Corporations will stop at nothing to maximize profits and minimize expenditures.
