(All times Central)
Formula 1: British Grand Prix 8:55 am ESPN2 (Top three qualifiers are all Brits -- Silverstone crowd should be going nutzo, and, of course, there's a good chance of rain.)
IndyCar: Honda Indy 200 1 pm NBC (From the very cool Mid-Ohio track, this race will feature the debut of Indycar's new required hybrid powerplant, developed jointly by Honda and Chevy, the series' two engine suppliers.)
NASCAR: Chicago Street Race 3:30 pm NBC (I don't usually watch NASCAR racing, but bruiser boys on the streets of the Loop could be entertaining.)
Plus the final day of the John Deere Classic in the Quad Cities, where the top four leaders are looking to notch their first PGA victories.
Some viewer discretion will be advised -- I can't watch 'em all.
p.s. Speaking of exercise, the Jimmy John's potato salad was surprisingly good, especially after enhancement with Louisiana brand Cajun seasoning.

Chicagoans drive faster and crazier than those NASCAR guys all the time. Just get on the Dan Ryan. Add the date to the title of the thread and this can be the daily.

We can deem this the daily regardless of the title.
Good morning, folks. It appears that the heat in the west will hold on for another week. This morning we'll attend church. Then the daughter who's pregnant will come by to pick up the quilt my wife made for the imminent addition to the family.
I've been reading a book about the Bundy brothers, McGeorge and Bill, who played central roles in the decisions regarding Vietnam. I think I can see how it all happened. Very smart, decent men kept making understandable decisions until they had a mess they couldn't unravel.
Peace.

Good morning. I'm about to make coffee and considering cooking up some oatmeal (porridge, to James).
Her Grace is still asleep in the royal bedchamber, but it is with certainty we can say she will be awake and out at the crack of 10:00 am EST to watch the F1 race from Britain's Silverstone course.
It is still quite hot and humid here; not a great day to be outdoors moving around too much. The ice maker in our new-ish refrigerator seems not to be working today. Don't you hate it when stuff stops working?
Stay cool, have a good day.

I stopped working a long time ago and that was fine. Appliances have shorter lifespans now. They used to last 15+ years and now it’s 5+ years. But, we can talk to them and see through refrigerator doors now. Alexa can start our washer. We still have to empty it. Parts become obsolete quicker, too, because of the constant “improvements” that manufacturers keep adding. Refrigerators have motherboards that cost almost as much as the refrigerator itself. But, check to see that the ice maker is not turned off. Might be an easy fix.

Good morning. I gave up on our ice maker a long time ago. Looks like a typical Florida summer day. Heat and humidity, rain in the afternoon/evening. I'm a bit sore from yesterday's exertions. Went for a second bike ride in the evening, I really like riding at night, I can zoom around the neighborhoods on relatively empty roads. Good stuff. Nothing much planned for today. Be well, be happy.

It's one of the things I like about the new/old Toyota. It has almost no electronic amenities to break. Even the windows roll up and down manually. Nothing digital on the dashboard. I'm getting used to the crank starter.

I think, not positive, that we are going to have a normal Sunday of breakfast and shopping.

Hey, if you're sending porridge to James, feel free to send some my way, too. But I prefer oatmeal. I think I shall go buy some propane today. I thought the tank on my grill was essentially empty, so I just let it run after the last grill session. I went out an hour later and it was still lit. Oops. Now it's really "essentially empty." Unfortunately, I have nothing to grill. I might have to venture to one of our massive stores that take forever to get around and get through (and I will have to check myself out). By the time I'm done shopping I don't feel like cooking. I want to get a new refrigerator. One that has a magnetic front so I can stick magnets to it, and one that makes those huge globular balls of ice. Just because. Propbably just so the ice maker can stop working. I am interested in the Indycar and NASCAR races today, as much as I am ever interested in racing. Way back when I lived in San Jose, they did a mini Grand Prix through the streets of downtown. The week leading up to the race was pretty cool, as my building was on the interior of the loop but right on one of the corners. It was LOUD that week during test runs. Unfortunately there was no (economical) way to get tickets to the race, or to hide out in our building to watch.

I'm working on it. Just read the manual and did some of the troubleshooting things, powered down, powered back up. Waiting to see if this helped.
Otherwise... service call tomorrow.

We've been going back and forth to the Hospital in Sun City the last few days. We'll be going again today. My mother, who is 99 1/2, has had a congestive heart condition and she's been dealing with for years. But it is now starting to catch up with her. She's in the situation where she needs to take in water to keep from dehydrating, but then needs to take water pills to flush it all out. If she doesn't, it ends up in her lungs and around her heart. Then she's back in the ER. So we need to wait and see if she can go back to assisted living or needs to move the care center or memory unit. The nice thing about the place she is in, is that they have place for their residents at all stages.

Sorry to see this, Paul, knowing what is involved when caring for aging parents. I wish your mom, and you, good luck going forward. I hope she can find some comfort.

Paul, Best wishes for you and your mother.
90F on its way to 100.
I bought a dryer vent cleaning kit and went to work on it today. The kit has a plate that my shop vac hose connects to, and a hole in the plate to run a round brush into the vent. The plate then fits onto the dryer vent. The brush has a bunch of flexible extensions that connect to your drill to rotate the brush, all while your shop vac hose is sucking the loosened lint.
The kit is much more efficient than my prior method of trying to suck the lint out from the outside vent with various makeshift extensions for my shop vac. Hopefully dryer fires will be averted for another year.

Paul, I can identify. We went through some of that with my wife's parents. Like your mom, they were in a home that had a variety of options for care, depending upon the individual's condition. I wish you the best.

Excellent F1 race, exciting Indycar race, enjoyable golf ongoing, Chicago NASCAR race upcoming, and somehow I managed an hour away to make a Trader Joe's run.
One of my purchases was Lamb Vindaloo, w/ rice, which I just warmed up and enjoyed. The lamb was super-tender and the sauce was surprisingly spicy and flavorful.

Don'tcha just love modern technology?
Your fingers never get near the blades, unlike the traditional one on which I sliced off the side of my right thumb tip one Thanksgiving about 12 years ago. And right where the thumb strikes the guitar string when you're finger-picking.
This is obviously the 2024 version of the Ronco Veg-O-Matic.
