Good morning. Hot again. Hot later. Hot tomorrow.
My girls just hit the road from their long weekend and will be home this afternoon. This includes the dog. My bachelor weekend is about to come to a close.
A visit to the cardiologist will take place later this morning, for the routine tests. I anticipate that blood will be drawn, so I have resisted eating anything and I'm sipping a straight espresso. It is quite unpleasant to wait on a subway platform in this kind of heat; the stations don't even have ceiling fans in them and man, if you're on the lower level at West 4th Street, it's like being in one of Dante's inner circles of hell. Fortunately, I need to be on the east side of town today.
Here's where one descends into the inferno.
Stay cool and hydrated, folks.

Tornado touched down in Crown Point last night during ungodly storms. We lost a tree but seem ok as far as more damage is concerned. City officials are telling people stay home because of number of trees, power lines, and debris in the streets just 1/4 mile east of us. We spent a couple hours downstairs. We never lost power and could follow it all on TV & IPads. The Chicago weather dude kept saying, “This is not normal.” There were at least a dozen tornadoes they were tracking. I am not sure how many touched down or the extent of damage. There are over 100,000 homes with no power in the area. We lucked out in that department. Kind of scary. 🫣

Good morning. We are in Flagstaff. It’s cool and lovely. This morning, we will visit the Arboretum and ignore world events. Enjoy your day.

Power is out at the post office. We're waiting for the power to unload the trucks to start the day. It's going to be a long day.

Enjoying my coffee as I celebrate surviving last night's storms. Two hours of non stop lightning and thunder, power went out at 5:00 PM.
There were several tornadoes near, and at one point I was under two different tornado warnings at the same time. Sirens wailed as I sat in the basement.
About 7:00, most of the storm had passed. I was texting with a friend, who is a retired engineer with the power company. He said a fuse south of me probably caused my outage and it should be an easy fix.
I was sitting in my recliner, looking out the window when I saw a power company truck go slowly by, heading south, it was 7:53.
Ay 8:00 the electricity returned.

Looks like one fatality in the area due to a tree falling on a house.

Wow, sounds like a massive system, or maybe multiple systems? Glad to hear all the SH'ers report being OK.
Mr. Hanesworth?

Good morning. Not too bad weather wise here in Florida. Maybe rain this afternoon, maybe not. We'll see.
I've got the Crystal River song circle this afternoon and some shopping later this morning. Have a great day.

Good morning.
63F-79F sunny.
My only problem today is I'm still fighting the humidity down in the shop but the new dehumidifier is helping. That is where I'll be today as I have things that need to be done.

I'm OK. Storms blew all around us, butnot much here. Apparently it's a different tory in eastern Iowa, along the Mississippi.

We were tracking radar all evening expecting the same storm system to hit us around 1:00 AM. As it turned out, the worst part of the storms passed to the south of us and we had a light rain with some average thunder and lightning.
Dawn is doing desk work today so I am prevented from making much noise. Might read for awhile.

Looks like two pretty perfect days ahead here. Got a bunch of yard work done yesterday, will get out for some exercise today and have a gig tonight.
I got a pair of those car organizers that fit in the space between the front seats and the center console. I think they are going to work well and hopefully stuff won’t fall down there anymore. I’ll report back after a week.

Morning!
Temporarily caught up on chores. Think I'll spend the day working on my tan.
Oh, news I've been forgetting to report. For the first non-migratory time ever, I saw a pair of swans in a nice protected oxbow of the Red a couple miles east of town (one my favorite spots around here). Saw them again a week later. And last week coming back from cherry picking on the farm, I saw the pair yet again... with family in tow, five fuzzy cygnets (not a name I would have chosen).

Violent storms here last night. We spent at least two hours hiding in the basement. At one point we heard an unbelievably loud bang but were afraid to go outside to investigate.
It must have been lightning because the cable modem and a network backup server went out. I’m guessing they are “fried” but I don’t see signs of damage. I don’t know whether our cable provider’s system is up or down. I’ll call them shortly.
The only other damage is we are unable to turn out the lights in the hallway. Our house has low-voltage switching throughout (I have no idea why) and one of the five or six magic boxes that actually control power to lights and sockets must have been fried. None of the several switches controlling lights in the hallway respond and I have no way of knowing which magic box is affected. Some of them are actually in the attic space. This will be a costly fix. The modem and backup server will be cheap by comparison.

Yikes, Mark. My KC house had low voltage wiring because all of the lighting was fluorescent (crazy stuff for a house built in 1950). But thankfully we never had to deal with any problems.
Last year we did have a lightning strike across the street that killed the TV and tm some other devices. Note nearly as many things as were fried at there other neighbors.

A welcome, uneventful weather day and night in Beaverton. 97f for an expected high. I will make a DMV visit to transfer title on my new motorcycle, stop by my old office for mail, and not much else planned.

The thought often wanders across my mind why someone didn't invent these things sooner, especially as bucket seats and consoles became more common in cars.

Speaking of storms, I just edited a review of "Twisters," the cleverly named sequel to "Twister." The film reviewer was quite impressed, giving it 3.5 stars out of 4, and calling it an "engaging, emotional summer blockbuster."
