Good morning, folks.
Today's the day for a haircut. I also need to finish planning for a trip to California in October. I've been procrastinating because I have mixed emotions about the trip. The good part is that we'll visit a series of national parks--Sequoia, King's Canyon, Yosemite--and our younger daughter. The bad part is that we'll have to put up with long hours of driving, traffic and crowds. But it's hard to go anywhere these days without encountering traffic and crowds.
All's well, except for my defeat in Wordle. Enjoy your day.

Wordle 1,133 5/6
🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜ 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ 🟩⬜🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
Just made it. My normal three starter words made it clear that there was only one vowel in the puzzle and I would need to use it twice.
My long overdue haircut is tomorrow.

Good morning.
64F-87F sunny.
Shop work for most of the day.
Been thinking about one last batch of string winders as I have collected some nice wood. Walnut, maple, wenge and maybe some other woods. They are a Lot of work and a lot of time spent getting all the little parts that are needed. But it's been a few years since I've made any and some parts may be available in bulk online now. In the past I would clean out several hardware stores to get enough parts. Still thinking, it's a lot of work and once started it dominates my shop. Nothing else gets done.

A glorious morning at the beginning of "high summer"
Taking the day off from my usual home repair duties. Kayaking this morning at a lake in the northeast corner of the county. Old-time jam in the evening on the lakeshore. Getting to the lakeshore is challenging in that critical freeway ramps are closed for construction. Think I will take the scenic route -- pleasant farm country once one escapes the clutches of the city.

Morning. 3 small local fire starts yesterday. Forest Service is on them so we'll see. We are pretty socked in with smoke from other regional fires.

Had some fun dancing with a scammer this morning at 6 AM. I have been trying to sell my mothers mobility scooter and recently listed it on facebook marketplace. So first thing this morning I find an offer to purchase it for the full asking price. She says she just had a baby, and even sent me a picture (aww, how sweet right?) She says she'll send her sister to pick it up at 6 tonight. Is that okay. Sure. She now says she'll pay using zelle in advance (without even having seen the thing). I give her my phone number to zelle the money, but for some reason she needed an email address. She says she sent the payment, did you get a confirmation email from zelle? Why yes I did, but it was a notice that the money is pending due to limit restriction. I won't bore you with the details, but the "put in some extra money" spin was laced in there somewhere. The email was sent from an zellelimitnotice@AOL account. Scammers went the trouble to create a legit looking bogus email. So clearly a scam and as soon as I called her out on it, the tread was shutdown and she was on to the next potential victim. All during my first cup of coffee this morning.
...and I got Wordle in 2.

I think I’ll watch the Olympics opening ceremony today around noon. Otherwise yard work, shop work and probably a paddle or walk.
With the Tour, The Open, and now the Olympics it’s a sports TV summer. The blood sport of the election will fill any gaps nicely.

Good morning. It is a gorgeous morning in Brooklyn: fresh air, low humidity, a comfortable 75°. It will become hotter later, but I have all the windows open, a soft breeze is blowing through the apartment and my wife, daughter, and her house guest just left for a visit to the Metropolitan Museum. So, I have the place to myself for a few hours. Me and the dog. This is a perfect summer morning.
A couple of quick errands, brunch later, and some solid reading time await.
I hope all is going well for drlj, kenlarsson, and anyone else who is dealing with physical issues.
Have a peaceful day, folks.

Its' supposed to be hot today and this weekend, but right now it's only 72 and this morning was perfect for a walk. Open mic tonight.

Morning!
Hot and windy. Perfect day for the Hobo Haus Marathon. It's a grueling event. To complete it you have to quaff a beer at 26 different beer stations. And they aren't located right next to each other, either. You have to walk from one corner of the Hobo to the next. Tortuous. At least there are relief stations along the way with pretzels and pork rinds.

Yesterday was a mixed bag on the automotive front. It turns out there was ANOTHER G37 in the Nissan shop when mine was there, and the mechanic who told the service writer about the need for an alternator was talking about the other one. So they ran diagnostics on mine, everything was fine, they charged the battery and installed the new wiper blades I had requested. But keep in mind there was only $7 worth of gas in the tank when I got there, and they must have done a test drive, cuz on my way home from the dealer, IT RAN OUT AGAIN. Fortunately right next to a gas station, and a couple of beefy guys pushed me off the street and up to the pumps. So I spent $200 on the tow truck, $200 for two days of car rental and $250 at the dealer. Insurance may cover the tow and rental car, need to call my agent.
A lot better than $1,400, and I got a car wash!

The knee that wasn't replaced last December has been giving me fits this week. Spent six hours in a car Saturday handing off my mother-in-law to Nancy's brother Ohio for a couple of weeks. Getting out of the car at a rest stop the knee gave off a pretty massive pop. It's been hurting since.
I got a cortisone shot yesterday and it's much better. Hope it helps for a while. Knee surgery was not the most fun that I've ever had and I refuse to do it again until at least after Idiot Jam.

I hope it holds out, Rob. I have had knee surgery in the past—not replacement, though—and it is no fun. The pre-surgery pain was horrendous.

Another day with more of the same from the fire center of the west. Sorry about all the smoke heading your way, Steve. Not too much here on the west side of the Cascades, so far. Only thing is, fire season just got started, and it’s already worse than all of last year.
Groceries, and Yardwork are the plans for today.

Good morning. Typical Florida summer weather today, heat, humidity and rain in the afternoon. I've got some minor yardwork to do, if I get motivated. No big deal either way. Yesterday I went to the vein doctor's office and it was so backed up that I was told I would have had to wait about 2 hours to see the doctor. I rescheduled. I can live with the restless legs until my new appointment in late August. I booked the first appointment of the day so there shouldn't be a wait, we'll see..... I've been using an artificial nail on my picking finger. Over time the nail has deteriorated from the glue so I'm taking a break from the artificial nail until the real nail grows in and the damaged keratin gets replaced. This has forced me back to the flatpick. That prompted me to break out the Taylor 355 12 string. Haven't played it in a bit and I'm having fun with it although I can only play a few songs before I have to give the left hand a rest. I will persist. Came across these wood storks hanging out on a roof yesterday during my bike ride. Have a great day folks.

With my Falcon the gauge got stuck at around half full. So I just knew I needed to fill the tank once a week (I chose Wednesdays).

So I just knew I needed to fill the tank once a week (I chose Wednesdays). Apparently quite complex and spendy to address -- it seems to read accurately well beyond the half-empty point, so I am just gonna use the Falcon Method.

You might try Alaska Picks while your fingernail is regenerating. The tip goes under your fingernail so it’s in the same place your fingernail would be. They can be filed down to suit your style. Also, the most common mistake people make when flatpicking is playing with too much tension. Relax your hands and concentrate on reducing tension.
