Cold! Today will be an inside day, except for going to the mailbox to pick up my new, highly accurate hydrometer from Amazon, once the mail man delivers it.
Yesterday afternoon I got a call from the post office telling me that they had a package for me but they found it too late to make the promised delivery date (yesterday). I told them not to worry, just send it out tomorrow, it's nothing important. (Marty and my guitars might think it is important)

I don't have a WSJ account so I couldn't read the article, but I can guess what it's about. Anymore if you're going to ski a week or more it's cheapest to buy a season pass. Weekend travel from Denver on I70 on a Saturday morning is insane. Traffic just west of Golden crawling west with 50-60 miles to go. Lift lines on busy weekends! About the only negative we encountered this trip was snow conditions, Beaver Creek is noted for it grooming, but this year was different. The Arrowhead section of BC is one of my favorite places to ski, since I've been skiing there, probably 18 years, this was the first year the major runs were ungroomed. The locals told us it was mostly a COVID problem. BC has 16 groomers, and when we arrived there they only had staff to operate 6 of the 16 groomers. In a couple weeks I'll be going back to BC and Breck, it'll be interesting to see if things are improving.

Pictures are from Talons Restaurant, looking up at Larkspur Bowl and about halfway up Larkspur bowl looking down at the restaurant. Talons Restaurant is at the bottom, finish line, for the Birds of Prey downhill racecourse. Back home from a week of skiing at Beaver Creek, Co. we had beautiful weather for the drive out and sunshine for the first 4 days of skiing. On last Friday, our last ski day, we had about 4-6 inches of fresh powder. I took it pretty easy skiing mostly blue runs (intermediate) but did get into a few black. I averaged about 15,000 vertical feet a day, which gave me around d75,000 for the week, or about 85-90 miles of horizontal skiing. we left Avon, where our condo was, at 6:00 am Saturday morning for the drive home. With the snow Friday and Friday night the chain laws were in effect on both Vail pass and on both sides of the Eisenhower tunnel. The truck was in 4 wheel drive all the way to Denver. From Denver to Des Moines the roads were good, but Des Moines had 12 inches of snow on Friday and the highway was terrible, rough ice and cars and semis in the ditch everywhere. We witnessed a 20-30 car pileup in Des Moines. Once we were east of Des Moines about 20 miles the roads went back to being pretty good and we pushed on home. The trip home was 15 1/2 hours, but we had 6 drivers, 3 in each vehicle so it wasn't too bad although it was tiring.

I've been driving motorcycles for 51 years and I wouldn't even think of doing a trip on anything less than 400cc. You may think you'll always be on back country roads, but what happens when you find yourself in a position where real highway travel is your only option. What bikes would you suggest for 66 year old riders with no recent experience? I don't think they make them anymore, but I have an old Honda 400 automatic. Very easy to drive, it's a 2 speed automatic, so no clutch. It's also relatively light and nimble. Don't know what the top speed is but it will easily run at 55-60.

Just a quick check in from Avon, Colorado. Coffee is perking, we'll be having pancakes and bacon for breakfast and then we'll hit the slopes.

It's all the way up to +2 degrees.
Yesterday on I380 in Cedar Rapids a man was driving the wrong way, hit 2 semis, and a couple other vehicles, wrecking his own vehicle. He then took off all his clothes, I believe the windchill at the time was-27 degrees, and he tried to escape the crime scene on foot. He was apprehended a few blocks away.
No, it wasn't me!

-3 degrees, but the sun is shining.
Today, like yesterday the dogs were out as the sun rose, sun dogs that is. Sometime today I need to make a trip to Center Point, other than that it's going to be an inside day.

7 degrees out now, the sun is shining and the wind is howling. The wind woke me up at 3:00 this morning, the good news is the current storm will be delivering snow to Minnesota and Wisconsin, but not here.
The coffee is good this morning and our gig yesterday was good. I plan to make a Fareway run later this morning.

I’m taking my ebike to the desert in a couple of weeks, and getting back to Vespa. Mike What kind of e bike do you have? I've been looking at e bikes, but I want to hold off getting one for a couple years.

It's minus a whole bunch out and the high for the day is predicted to be +5. I'll venture outside at 11:00 and clean up the snow around the entrances, then wait for the plow to come and do the rest.

Ok, I'll admit it, I keep track of everything. Given that, I find my cycling history of 2021 interesting. I racked up the following mileage: Honda 118 miles Sportster 542 miles Bicycle. 770 miles

Well I didn't see the new year arrive, but I did see the ball drop, close enough. Looks like the big snow storm is tracking a little bit farther south. That changes the snow predictions here from 4-7 inches down to 1-4 inches.
Happy New Year everyone!

I have a very exciting day planned. Go to the pharmacy for a refill on one of my meds. Go for a hike in the snow and make up several pans of my chicken noodle casserole. The casserole, if that's what it is, is delicious. It's noodles, cream of mushroom soup, pepper bacon, herb and garlic feta cheese, cheddar and parmesan cheese layered in a pan and then baked. I'll make 3 pans, freeze 2 and eat the 3rd pan over the next couple days. Oh, I might try to stay up till 11:00 tonight to see the ball drop in NYC, then again I may not.
Edit. I just finished frying up 2 lbs of pepper bacon and when I saw the cans of chicken breast on the counter I remembered that I forgot to mention it. Each pan of the casserole will have about 15 oz of chicken breast in it.

A balmy 23 degrees, but heavy clouds and a gloomy look.
At 1:00 I'm taking the truck in for a check up, I think all it needs is new windshield wipers. I'll also stop at the grocery store and pick up a few things to have on hand for Saturday's snow storm.

A cold, sunny morning. At 8:00 this morning I was sitting watching TV, drinking coffee and wondering what time I should go outside and move some of the 2-3 inches of new snow. That's when I heard a big noise, looked outside and a 4 wheel drive John Deere was coming in my driveway. Snow removal problems solved.
I will venture out to Vinton later, gotta renew my ATV registration and pick up some groceries.

Sitting with a cup of coffee watching it snow. Roads may be getting icy. It's beautiful as long as I'm inside, nice and warm.
Music practice is scheduled for this afternoon....but, I wonder....

My wake up call came at 5:30 this morning when Waylon, a large black lab mix dog, joined me in bed.
We had an early family breakfast at the Koffee Kup, in Stoughton, WI at 6:30 this morning. My 20 year old grandson and I were walking in the 2 inches of fresh snow near the cafe, when we encountered a gentleman, probably in his mid 50s shoveling the sidewalk. My grandson goes up to the guy and says "sir, do you want me to shovel the sidewalk for you, I could have it done in 5 minutes "?
The guy just stood there with a bewildered look, for a few seconds before responding that he had it under control, but thanks.
Now I'm back home in Iowa, no snow here.
