Happy birthday, Dan! I was going to send a cake, but it looks like I'd be overdoing it.

Horseback riding in Red Rock Canyon today. Been looking forward to this for weeks. Have a great day, everyone. Jan My brother-in-law and I rented a car in Vegas once to visit the dam. The countryside sure looked barren, but something made me want to wander off into it. Haven't seen it, but I think I've heard it. Unique bird call. Supposedly, there might be an ivory-billed woodpecker in the vicinity of our camp in Mississippi. The forest service comes out to a particular tree from time to time to monitor. I'm sworn to secrecy. They don't want hordes of watchers to descend on the place. And they need certain confirmation. [/quote] That's cool, Evan. They took them off the extinct list, right? No one has seen one for decades but enough people have heard them that it's considered evidence that they're still around.

If retirement means being under house arrest because of driving restrictions, then yes.

I'm off to work (half time) for the first time in two months. It will end with a zoom meeting. I guess I'll be right back into it.

If you would have played the third set, no one would have been around to hear it. At least you got most of it in!
None of the storms that hit so hardin places west of us, like eastern Nebraska, made it here last night, and we haven't gotten any rain in what was supposed to be a rainy weekend so far. Tonight and tomorrow will be different stories, though, with possibly severe weather moving in.
I'm off to breakfast with a friend, then the coffee shop where I'll make my grocery list, then off to buy said groceries. Not a cloud in the sky right now.

That all sounds great, drlj. It feels good to see light at the end of the tunnel, doesn't it? As far as shoes, I picked up a pair of Sketchers slip on walking shoes because I'm not comfortable bending over yet. They truly do slip right on, hands-free, and they're quite comforable. Best ninety bucks I've spent in a long time.

Like Darryl said, it's cold and rainy out there today. Lots of rain over the weekend. I got out my rain gauge so I'll be able to see just what lots of rain means. We sure could use it.

From the first article:
That sentence reads like no families practice emergency plans in case an angry drunk crashed his car through their garage and then their homes.
Seriously, though, what a needles and tragic event, Joe. It was good to read that State Farm has her covered.

It's clear and relatively cool today. Clouds are supposed to move in later, the harbinger of stormy weather we're expecting all weekend.

It's nice and sunny out, but still a bit cool to be sitting outside. Good news for me is that I got the clearance to start work part-time on Monday. Living in the country with a driving restriction I feel like I've been under house arrest, and it'll be good to get out.

A trip down the Great River Road sounds like a fantastic trip, David. I bet you both are enjoying the heck out of it.
It's sunny here, but windy. I hear clouds are rolling in later.

Occasionally, paul, I'm right. But I admit my error that time. Although when you tell that story you always neglect the trombone slide episode. Gee, I wonder why.

As convenient as four lane highways can be, I do miss the two laners that went right through the middle of small towns. You'd have to slow down, but there was more to look at. Highway 30 in Iowa is still like that from Mt. Vernon on east, and that's the route I take when visiting friends in suburban Chicago. It doesn't take that much longer, and I get go through the very heart of place like Clarence, Wheatland and Grand Mound. This is the Lincoln highway and it goes all the way to Batavia, which is my suburban Chicago destination. Next time I go I'm taking that for the entire route.

Yes, they do have a budget for money. And they are required to spend that budget. These places will not hesitate to pay you if you ask.

Yes, you're luck Terry. A few years ago when I was on an empty taking a patient to Cedar Rapids in the hospital van a white table with folding legs sailed out of the bed of the truck a ways ahead of me. The kind of table with folding legs like one might see at a funeral or an arts and crafts show. It went straight up into the air and seemed to float for a bit on it's back, legs folded. I knew that wouldn't last; it would turn and crash to the ground quickly, the whole thing was unpredictable. Instinct told me not to stop, but to drive under it. I landed about 50 yards behind me right in the east-bound lane, which I was using. I said to the patient, who was a very aware and lucid gentleman sitting behind me, "damn!" He said "what?"

If you're going to do it live you have to be able to do it in practice, even the 15 minute breaks and then back at it. I'm just glad I never endeavored to "stand" while playing. I have to respect guys like Doyle Dykes, Pat Donohue, Tommy Emmanuel, and many others who perform standing up. You have to practice playing that way also. I've never liked playing standing up. I've always sat, standing is if yoursomeone you play with, I thought, so I never did. Now I find it quite unwieldy. It's a sunny day out there, the high will 60. There's not a whole lot I can do yet, and a lot I can't do well, but one thing I can do after a lot of hospital time is walk. So I'll do that again today. It feels good to be mobile for a distance again.
