Like Chuck, I was in the class of '76. By that time, if you were still listening to pop radio, you were a chump.
Bill's '68 list is an eye-opener, as that was the year I started playing guitar, and I loved a lot of those songs. People Got To Be Free by the Rascals was one of the best from a band that had many "bests"; Midnight Confessions was one of the best the Grassroots ever put out (along with Temptation Eyes); ditto Love Child for the Supremes. And Aretha killed on everything, of course. Good year.

Good music on most lists.
This weekend going to a 'mega reunion' for Miami Springs High School.
I was '68.

I have never been to a reunion. To my knowledge, my class has never had one. If they have, I have not known about it but, since we were a bunch of anti-everything hippies, my guess is that one has never been held. I have always found the idea of going to a reunion rather strange for some reason and I just don's see the appeal especially if one has not kept up with a lot of members of one's class. It seems, as I said, strange.

I am amazed at how much dhrek I've managed to flush down the drainpipe of my memory.
This stuff was riding in the car music. The real stuff was what we had on our lps next to our turntables.

I was '72 along with Dradtke. I nominate '76 as the worst posted so far.

Here's a good link to find your year. www.jamrockentertainment.com/billboard-music-top-100-songs-listed-by-year.htmlMine year was 1975 and it is chock full of what radio calls "Classic Rock" these days. Springsteen, Queen, Zeppelin, Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith, Eagles. And then there's the R&B segment highlighted by KC & The Sunshine Band, Donna Summer, E,W&F, O'Jays' Spinners. Just in time for Disco to take over the airwaves. www.jamrockentertainment.com/billboard-music-top-100-songs-listed-by-year/top-100-songs-1975.html

You guys complaining about the 70s... I graduated in 1983. I can tell you with utmost assurity the stuff both on the radio and on the table next to your record player was better that the early 80s. We had a brief respite in the early 90s, until the music industry decided to turn into "find one original band and clone the hell out of them."
These days, with admittedly some exceptions, the rock and roll genre seems to be "power chords and distortion." Fooey.

OK Ed, now that's the '72 I remember. Oh, and welcome to this board from a fellow 3rd world resident. ;D Where in New Orleans? My wife is a native, grew up in Lakeview, went to Mt. Carmel, UNO, etc.

Actually I grew up in BR and my 72 graduation was from Broadmoor. My wife is from NO also and that's how I ended up here. I'm in Harvey, now.

With very few exceptions (Neil Diamond and Gilbert O'Sullivan being two I'm certain of) I think I owned every one of the top 50 on that list of albums in 1972.

Also '72. After looking at that list I now understand why I dismissed most of the current music as junk or worse.
Rob wins. Bill is runner up, but it wasn't a close finish.

I agree, but I am betting that '65, '66 and '67 would be fabulous contenders for the Overall Best title. I've pretty much decided, BTW, not to do the reunion gig, as I checked out the venue and it's home to loud, rowdy bands and I am neither loud nor a band. Plus I might wanna just schmooze with my homies. And I am still trying to figger out why Mr. Resolve's class recognizes 46 years as numerically significant to have a reunion. Or maybe they have one every year?
