Held to a higher standard. All LEO shootings should face a jury trial. I'd agree with that if the jurors all had to be LEOs too since that's the only jury of their peers that would understand the situations.

Bruce I thought you were a gun guy. Apologize for assuming. I'm pretty sure lots of modern semi auto 9mm have 15 or so rounds in the standard clip. Ad one in the chamber, and you get that he emptied his weapon into the kid.

What Mike said is correct. Many 9mms have a 15 round magazine. Whenever I went "off post" in Kabul, I chambered a round and had a full magazine of 15 rounds. Sad to say, whenever I was in a meeting with the locals, I also had the safety off.

My question was really because, thinking 8 rounds, maybe they were counting entry and exit wounds. Having no real idea what was in the cop's mind at the time, after the first shot I can imagine " Oh, fuck. I shot the kid now what, my career is over and the world is changed for me", all the while continuing to mindlessly pull the trigger. Shooting the kid was probably traumatic for the cop unless he really was a Rambo type. We may never know.

Hopefully the trial will answer those questions, Bruce. As for exit wounds, they don't look much like entry wounds.

They don't seem to care that the kid was committing crimes and was on PCP which I believe gives the user the belief of invincibility sort of like Superman. I suppose we'll never know if the kid started out on pot before he graduated to harder stuff.

A good starting point to avoid getting hurt by the Police is to obey the law.

The kid didn't start on pot. Yes, he's black, but he's still human, so like the rest of us, he started on the nipple, breast-attached or otherwise.

Do you know?

A good starting point to avoid getting hurt by the Police is to obey the law. Van Dyke was a known violent and racist cop who had a long record of racially motivated assault, most of it ignored and excused by his fellow officers and the investigating authorities. Another good way to cut down the chances of people being hurt and killed by police is to take that kind of violent and racist policing seriously and punish it.

Its a reality that black people live with. My Son-in-law is black. He's a pretty high-powered biz executive with Aramark. When he was working in the South West repping their food services to small colleges in TX and such, my daughter (his wife) always worried about him driving at night out in the country down there from college to college. For blacks this is VERY REAL. When the video was released he texted a link to it to all his nieces and nephews with the note; be careful !

It's the circumspect thing to do, especially for black citizens. I hope every cop in the US will soon be wearing body cams. I think those would have a moderating effect all the way around.

My son runs a science outreach program for the Boys And Girls club in Chicago. Some of the guys on staff at the club are active duty Chicago cops. I was out drinking beer with them and my son after a fundraiser last year. Their stories were amazing. They were good guys really interested in helping kids realize a better life but they described a real war zone. They said they had their guns out almost every night. Depressing stuff.
