A good starting point to avoid getting hurt by the Police is to obey the law. Doesn't help. Freddie Grey didn't break any laws and he was killed by the police. Walter Scott didn't break any laws and he was shot 5 times in the back by a cop.

I have no idea how practical these are, but it appears to be a simple solution.
Also, a tranquilizer dart in many situations, would seem to be a reasonable step prior to killing the suspect.

Looks like the net thing might be a useful tool. I've used tranquilizer darts on animals and the dose is very wt dependent and not quick acting. Dose to knock out a 300 lb man would kill a 100 lb woman. Even if you had say darts in 50 lb increments you would still be subjective in guessing the wt. So wouldn't work on a guy with a gun, he would be able to shoot 100 or more before he was knocked out about 5 min on a sheep. But it might be a tool to have in the arsenal.

That spider net appears to be a humane and sensitive approach as it immobilizes the suspect yet permits him to scratch where it itches. Certain rights are inalienable.

Yup he will.
In a strange way, McCarthy is probably a good cop. A cop's cop. Many good things have happened under his tutage. But there's no oversight of CPD. This kind of incident is allowed to happen and there's no accountability for the bad apples in the barrel. Some article was saying that only 4% of complaints against police are ever validated. And of those less than a third get discipline more than a 3 or 4 days pay. Nobody gets charged with anything. . . , nobody.
It invalidates the good things you do when you cover up the bad things and protect the perpetrators.
But your point is true. This smells more of protecting Rahm than anything else.

Chicago cops face the closest thing to a war this side of the Middle East. Every day (or at least every weekend). Last weekend there were over 80 shootings in Chicago. The only difference is that the shooters aren't specifically targeting the cops (as in the war in the Middle East). But you'd have to be half nuts to want to be a cop in Chicago.

Damn right it's a tough job. And not one I want to do. And I don't have a problem with the Chief being protective of the men under him that risk their lives day in and day out. They need an advocate, not a critic. But still there needs to be independent oversight. This case points that out more clearly than anything else. It's too easy (expected even) to cover up the few(?) bad incidents that happen. Thus, there's no accountability. And so it risks totally negating all the right things they do.

According to 5 different list * cops only get into the top 10 most dangerous jobs in 2 of them and farming, fishing, and truck driving all are more dangerous than being a cop. So it's more dangerous to be epaul than a cop. That's why ePaul is my hero. But then, so was RuPaul. Maybe its just the name Paul.

Yeh, well, you really can't shoot a tractor when it starts tipping over on you. I want to see the dash-cam video. For all we know Paul shot the tractor so he could tell his wife he needed a new sexy one.

It's not farming that's dangerous. It's drinking and farming that's dangerous.

It's not farming that's dangerous. It's drinking and farming that's dangerous. Yes, but have you ever tried farming without drinking?

Good thing Rahm threw the Chief under the bus. That will fix things for sure.

No. Just another crooked democratic politician covering his ass. Followed by another weekend of 70 or 80 shootings of mostly black people by mostly black people. Black lives don't seem to matter to those folks.
