Good for you Bill. I have sat in on many open AA meetings, and like Wren attended Al-Anon for several years. I have never in my life met more accepting, warm wonderful people.
If your drinking has been a problem for Barb, she might benefit from Al-anon also. They are not against drinking, and they do understand the disease from the family's viewpoint.
Keep going back.

"One day at a time". You know how to reach me if you ever need my support or just to talk.
1. Accepting the fact that there is a problem 2. Identifying the problem 3. Developing a plan of action 4. Taking action .......... Sounds like you're well on your way and I'm quite proud of you.

I would have never guessed. I know it must be the right thing to do. You have my support. Right now, I'm still struggling with imagining this...nevermind. Good move. Strong move. Stick with it.

Wow, you guys and gals are great -- a skillion thank-yous for your understanding and support.
Just logged back in after watching an amazing Chargers team totally overwhelm the Steelers -- great game.
As for the AA, I feel very positive and even happy about this turn of events. I know that I have the advantage of having quite a bit of extended periods in my past when I did not drink, but what I have really needed all along is good evidence as to why it's crucial that I abstain -- permanently. That is where the AA vets come in, and I am doubly glad that I'll be at another meeting tomorrow night: more firsthand stories, more encouragement, more reason to keep doing the right thing.
I'm going to bed feeling that a big weight is being lifted, and thankful for Barb and youse peoples, too. It really is a remarkable group.

Hi Bill, My mother is a dry drunk unfortunately--doesn't think she needs AA. But there are several people in my life who are friends of Bill W. I am so proud of you for making this courageous first step. One day at a time, my friend.

Bill, You and I have shared many a conversation on wine and recommending reds to each other on the forum. I`ve never met you but I feel a kinship and all I can say is I am f#cking proud of you man...really! No smoke blown... no ass. Good for you for taking control of this. You are indeed an inspiration on many levels. If you need to talk or blow off steam my email is always open to you my friend. Matt

Bill, good for you. It takes courage to admit that your drinking has become a problem. I'm so glad that you've taken this first step to recovery before things got totally out of control.
You'll be in my prayers, my friend.

Like all of the others have said, "Good job!" Having come from a long line of alcoholics on both sides of the family, I've seen firsthand what damage it can cause. I'm proud of you for recognizing the problem and addressing it. Be sure to get Barb involved with your AA activities because as you change, she'll come to know you as a different man. Surely a newer, better man.
Good luck, Bill. Hang tough.

Not much else I can add Bill. I've watch many a friend go down the wrong road, and so few seem to make it back. I'm glad you are taking the correct steps.

Thanks so much, Chuck, and others.
I had what I hope and pray was my last drink last Tuesday, with Marty -- we had a beer at Kafe 421 after work, then I went home, drank no more, and thought about the assessment scheduled for the following afternoon. That was also the day that Marty and Cheri had their car accident, but I don't think we can blame it on the one bottle of Newcastle Ale he drank, especially considering that he was a passenger!

I have a relative who is an alcoholic (many of us do, eh?). I have a soft spot in my heart for the program as a result. It's a life-saver for some. A relationship saver for others. I have huge respect for the relative who has made it work for close to twenty years now. I respect anyone who takes the step. As has already been said, many more of us wonder, or have wondered, about our own habits at times.
God bless you Bill (and Ken, and Steve, and...)
Fred

Cool. Where do we send our orders? Oh, you have to pick them up in person, this week, Brian! I hope that is no inconvenience for you.

Cool. Where do we send our orders? Oh, you have to pick them up in person, this week, Brian! I hope that is no inconvenience for you. Sure, no problem. I suppose with all the money you've saved you'll pay for my air fare, too? BTW: I commend you on finding the personal courage to do what you've done. You're a good man.
