I was about to post in the daily but thought I would take time for an update. Since the last one things have gotten better. My daughter has absolutely been killing it as Chief Financial Officer and VP of Business Operations. I have been focused on working and billing and assisting the other guys to keep their projects going and clients happy. The tax consultant we hired to deal with the IRS has more than earned his money. Between him and my daughter, they have persuaded the IRS not to add penalties to us. We will pay the back taxes and any legitimate interest owed and that will be all. From the $124K that we owed when my daughter found this mess, all we now owe is around 15K. We will owe the tax consultant around 6K for a bonus on top of his fees. He will get 15% of the 40K he convinced the IRS to abate. Well worth it. We have had several big projects for Universal that will be ending soon so I don't know what we will be doing specifically but as things are still booming around here, we should be able to find some projects. Back home, we are getting some pipeline work which is what I am doing today. If the pipeline work keeps coming and Fla keeps booming, my daughter said we should be debt free in a year or so. We still have some serious credit card and bank line-of-credit debt that will need to be addressed. I am working 6 and 7 days a week but at least we are making progress towards getting out of debt. I wonder how many small business owners have hit the rocks like we did after '08? I am thankful the doors are still open and I don't have to go to a cubicle farm every AM and work for someone else. I work a lot of hours but it is at my own pace and if I want to take a nap, or walk the dog, or or have a sip of Scotch, I don't have anyone to frown at me. We are still splitting our time from Orlando to McNeill, MS. Quite a lot of lifestyle difference between those two. The apartment is third floor with some complete assholes above us who- no exaggeration- sound like they re-arrange their furniture every night starting about 11 PM. They stomp back and forth till all hours of the AM and even experienced apartment dwellers who visit will ask "What are they doing up there"?? Faithful wife has trouble sleeping here but we will be looking for another apt soon and-lesson learned- no one will be above us. OK, back to work. Laters...

Sounds like it is time for a new guitar! Some great buys out there on Collins and SC's. I even saw a really nice Merrill go for $2300 on ebay (adi/maghogany OM).

Alan, very pleased to read your news and know that there's a light at the end of your tunnel. I would like, though, to take this opportunity to introduce you to one of my personal favorite keyboard keys (as a copy editor), the ENTER key. As a friend and comrade (and reader of your posts) I affectionately encourage you to use it more often. 😉

To expand on Howard's comment: There are different approaches to hitting the enter key for paragraphing. What has always worked well for is to just count to twenty or so and then hit it a couple times. Sometimes I only count ten, just for a little eye-refreshing variety. I used my approach to edit your post below. Notice how clean and inviting it now looks. I was about to post in the daily but thought I would take time for an update.
