Do you have some? We talk about so many things but music here, it is fun (for me anyway 😁) to know what everyone is up to musically!
I am still working on formulating some specific goals. In general I just want to play more than I have been.
One specific goal is that I want to finish the CD I started. One song left to record. Maybe two.
I have started to explore a new set of songs. I need to discipline myself to make time to work on getting those ready for practice.
I plan to teach myself and my 5 year old grand darling to play the ukelele. Will try to get some weekly sessions going with her.
How about you? Care to share? 🎼

My goal is to explore jazz chords and how to incorporate them into fingerstyle playing.

I have two ideas for CDs and would like to get working on both but I can't seem to get the energy up.
I'd like to get playing out more but health is holding that up and doesn't look to be getting better.

One of my goals for the new year is to get More musically involved in the Vinton area. To that end, Phil and I will be performing tomorrow for the lunch crowd at the 4th street diner. We'd like to find additional, local musicians who would be interested in getting together a couple times a month to jam, maybe work up some more music to play locally.
Todd, if you talk tothe dulcimer player in town tell her to stop at the 4th Street Diner tomorrow so we can meet her. (Todd you're welcome to stop by too)

My jazz guitar teacher is an 86 year old guy that is getting more feeble and forgetful but a wonderful player when everything is working.
He has supported himself with his music in one way or another all his life which is pretty remarkable. He worked out of the Milwaukee area much of his career. He gigs with us and my goal is to play with him as much as possible as the end of his days playing out are getting pretty close.
Oh yeah, learn to up pick with my thumb and get better at octaves.

Loads. Our band is building up a head of steam, and I remain at the ragged edge of my ability. I'm playing lead on about 1/2 of our songs, and it's a challenge to say the least. My goal is to simply hang on for the ride and to get better.
Our first hurdle will be our first gig in May. Fingers crossed!

I've finished up recording on a CD project: "Carnivals and other Tragedies." I'm trying to put together graphics for this. My daughter was going to help, but she says she can't do the Illustration work I have in mind. So, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how best to get that done. Then I have to decide how to promote it in some form. So, that consumes some energy.
I really want to get back into writing more songs. I'd like to form a group of songwriter types. Or take another class. But that's not as easy as it sounds.
I'd like to play more electric. Get better as an all-around guitar player.
There's always something.

I stopped making goals when I realized they were all just wishes. I'll probably just play a lot this year. I do wish I could find a more local group of some sort to play with or gig with, but that's just wishful thinking. If there were such a group I'd have found it by now.

Finish my last year of my conservatory Canada guitar and theory. Continue to work on both guitar and electronic compositions. Get some videos done of guitar compositions. Spend way more time on focused practice and improve my finger style playing. Strengthen my fingers. Both hands. Learn to play lap steel and write some tunes.
Mostly, see if I can actually apply myself to the degree I want to.

My goals are always very short-term: don't embarrass yourself tonight. Or even shorter-term: remember the changes for the bridge. I keep meaning to look through the Real Book charts for the tunes that the Monday Night Jazz guys call with some regularity, but I never seem to get around to it, so practice takes place on the spot. (I usually have the tune under my fingers by the last chorus.)
This has been my regimen for the last 20 years. Thank heavens for tolerant audiences and bandmates.

My goal is to decide if I'll ever be able to play like I did 4 or 5 years ago or I'll just quit trying. Right now it's a 50/50 split but if I do give up it won't break my heart. I'll still know that for a few years people came to hear me play, put money in the tip jar and I got paid for gigs. Not everybody can say that so maybe that's enough. I don't think I'll ever get the stamina up to take a paid gig again. Some of you talked me in to trying years ago and I thank you for that.

Get a second jet to help transport my crew for our performance tour through Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, but hopefully not have to deal with so many fans while trying to enjoy private time with my friends and family. And of course, keep the creative juices flowing and the performance level at an all time high.
Oh, wait a minute. That was the answer for the other David Gray.
I would like to get the energy, drive, and determination to learn to improvise some lead lines over simple 1, 4, 5 progressions, other than the pentatonic scale.

1. Get better with jazz chords.
2. Restring and tune my old autoharp.
3. Try to find a regular or semi-regular gig.

Play these again. Don you need one of these. After chipping away at what was a basket case a coupleof years ago I did a preliminary string up today. Wow! Sounded pretty good. Still a lot of fine tuning to do.
