First, it was nice seeing the update from Kate on Larry's status. So nice to have some good news.
Larry is one of those guys who just has a perfect soul. I remember fondly hanging out with him in the Cobblestone lobby a couple of years ago, jamming late into the night. Felt like I'd known him a million years, even though that weekend was the first time we'd met.
Second, thank you for all the kind words in the daily from Monday. They mean a lot. Sorry I haven't had time to reply to each of them.
Mom's situation is grim. Severe hemorrhagic stroke. Profound impairment. Terrible prognosis.
We're expecting to move her to hospice tomorrow. Expectation is this is over in something like a week. But I'm also learning just how imprecise the science of neurology really is, so there is a broad range of possibilities. Unfortunately, the range goes from bad to horrific. We are praying for "bad" right now.

I'm sorry to read this, Jeff. You could use some grace about now. And mercy. I'll pray for both.

Grace and mercy seem like two good things to pray for. I'll join John in praying for them.

I hate hospitals. I hate hospital "family" rooms. I hate the waiting around to no good end. Better to be scraped off the highway than hanging hopelessly by a hose in a hospital.
Hmm...maybe I should get that motorcycle.
Sorry, Jeff. I hope the end is quick and peaceful.

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can say that will make this all go away, or make it any easier. What we can do is be a place for you to say anything you want and we will gladly listen and try our best to understand or ease this for you.
I have gone through similar with my mother and watching her fade without being able to carry on a conversation or know that she was hearing anything we were saying was difficult.

Jeff, condolences to you from us here on this situation. We hope to bury our parents, and not our children. All you can do is your best to take care of her now, and if she has to let go, make her as comfortable as possible and spend as much time with her as you can. Peace, my friend.

I pray God to keep your heart, your mother's heart at peace. It's a journey nobody wants to walk.

Jeff, I just saw this. You have my deepest sympathies. I went through this about two years ago with my Mom. It’s hard, and I miss her every day, but it gets easier as time goes by. You are in my thoughts.
