I really enjoyed watching the Clemson game last night. I still am dumbstruck at the bad free throw shooting. I've never seen any thing like it. The one thing it does remind me of, however, is maybe twenty years ago when a team realized that their opponent couldn't hit a free throw to save their lives....so they simply fouled to the end. It worked. It was sad in a way. Like watching Greg Norman's collapse at the Master's final round.

2 of 8 from the line. I repeat, I've never seen such bad free throw shooting.

2 of 8 from the line. I repeat, I've never seen such bad free throw shooting. It’s not like it’s important and everybody in the world is watching.

The kid from North Dakota nailed his free throws.
(I believe he missed that last one on purpose. With a little over a second left in the game, don't give the bad guys a chance to heave the ball all the way to the other side of the court before the clock starts, start the clock with a rebound 90 feet away from your basket and completely screwed/)

Ouch is right.
This might be the year of "The Really Big Man".
(How in dickens does a team go on a 30-0 run? Is that a NCCA record? It has to be)

57.8% of surveyed brackets picked UConn to take the whole enchilada.
(I don't know who did the survey or who was surveyed, I only know CBS Sports printed it. ((but, it sounds good to me))

Tennessee by 14. Edey will get his points, but the game will be won by the three pointer -- or inability to score them.

My bracket is so busted, dead and done, done, done. And Casper's gloating over his has become insufferable. Sheesh! What kind of brag-worth picking does it take to pick the two top teams in the country to win all their games? Granted, he's a dog, but still, I ask you, what kind of bragging rights has he earned simply by picking UConn and Purdue, the two best teams in the country, to win, win, win? I could have done that...
Well, ok, so I didn't do that. So, he has that going for him. But still, I think a little humility on his part wouldn't be amiss.
(I really hope one or both of them lose their next game just to shut him up)

As a once a year basketball watcher and one who only remembers the rules in the 1950's when i played in HS I felt obligated to look at the current NCAA rulebook. My God!!!! those refs must be mensa types to know all that.
My wife is still in really good shape in her family bracket but I got sent to the cleaners today. Duke certainly left with its forked tail between its legs.
I am so disappointed about the elimination of the jump ball for the most part. Why did they do that?

... I am so disappointed about the elimination of the jump ball for the most part. Why did they do that? It was a union thing. All the players can jump so darn high nowadays, the refs were wearing out their rotator cuffs by trying to throw a basketball 15 feet straight up in the air. It got so no one had any idea where the hell the ball would end up. The only people happy with results were orthopedic surgeons.

Because of a desperation 35' heave that bounced in off the glass in the final second ...
- North Carolina State tied Virginia in the ACC tournament semi-final and went on to win in overtime.
- NC State was able to advance to the ACC championship game where they stunned top-seeded North Carolina 84-76 for the ACC Championship.
- As winner of the ACC Tournament, NC State, a team that finished 10th in the conference and would never have been invited to the "Big Dance", got an automatic bid to the NCCA Tourney.
- Slated to be fired after a disappointing season, NC State coach got a miracle reprieve when the Wolfpack made the NCCA tournament.
- The entire basketball world has now heard of, and fallen in basketball love with, DJ Burns Jr., a round mound of rebound that NBA and Hollywood both have their sights on.
All because of a last second banked in 35' heave that rattled the rim and went in.
Cool Beans!

I've watched DJ Burns Jr. make one remarkable spin move after another around the basket then finishing it off with an astounding shooting touch... remarkable soft hooks, flips, and floaters... and, incredibly, at least during my watching, not one dunk, not one slam. Even when it seems a dunk would be the shot of choice, he is flipping in a lovely floating hook from 4' out off the glass or soft into the net.
It is his appeal. He is big, heavy, block of a man, yet he moves and shoots with the soft, easy grace of a ballerina.
Ok, so he does swing his large butt about to good advantage, but his soft hands and shooting touch are exquisite.

And in the other tournament, I just watched Iowa's own Caitlin Clark fire in one long range swish after another. 27' out, 28' out, 30' out... nine of them, swish, swish, swish, all while guarded. And her passes are incredible. If she were playing with a more athletic team she would have had 30 assists, several of the full-court pass variety.
Caitlin is also a joy to watch. I think she and DJ Burns should get married. What a batch of ballplayers they would produce!
