Happy May Day, everyone. I offer a sprig of lily of the valley to all my Soundhole pals.
The tradition of offering lilies of the valley
"The tradition of offering a sprig of lily of the valley as a sign of good luck dates back to 1st May 1561.
That day, the King of France, Charles IX and his mother, Catherine de’ Medici, visited the Drôme region. Knight Louis de Girard gave the Royals a lily of the valley sprig he had picked in his garden.
In return, the young King made it a spring symbol and offered it to all the court ladies.
The years passed, and it was not until the 20th century that the Lily of the Valley was associated with Labour Day. When the 1st of May became Labour Day under the Vichy regime, the red rosehip, then a symbol of the Left party, was replaced by the lily of the valley.
At the beginning of the 20th century, it became customary on the 1st of May to give a bunch of lilies of the valley to relatives, friends or work colleagues. The flowers are a more general token of appreciation between people. A school pupil might offer a bunch of lilies to his/her favourite teacher."

Interesting. When I was a kid it was traditional to take flowers to people's doors on May Day but it wasn't any specific kind of flower.
Good morning, folks. A front's coming through today that will lower the high temperatures into the 80s and 70s at the price of some wind. I have to go get a blood test this morning. It shouldn't be too much of a hassle but I've come to assume that anything related to healthcare will be a headache.
Enjoy your day.

During my post-Navy collegiate days at UW-Green Bay I was in a cool combo called Mayday, with me playing rhythm guitar on my B25-12 (tuned to pitch), plus standup bass, jazzy lead guitar player and a powerhouse singer somewhere between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt, amazing voice and stage presence.
It's also my Dad's birthday; he would be 104 today.

Good morning, all.
Fifteen years ago today was my first day on the job at the Auburn University Medical Clinic. Where has the time gone?

Snowing on May Day. Lilies of the Valley have sprouted, but not blooming.
Recovering from a rough Saturday night/Sunday morning. Puking granddaughters spread the bug to both sets of grandparents.
Workshop time, might return to the long-delayed front door project.

Good morning
40F-54F windy.
Did carnitas tacos last night and I have enough left over for lunch, yummy.
Was totally rude to someone on the forum today. I figure after 14 years of telling people to play nice and don't fight I get to take a shot every now and then.
Down to the shop.

Sunny and windy. High 40’s predicted. I gave the workers at Kennedy Guitars May baskets and the day off.

Be glad you're not in the Upper Peninsula, where up to two feet of snow is predicted.

Just another day in paradise. High of only 90 today because of a cold winds moving through. It had been up around 100 the last couple days. The dogs love the pool and the water temp is perfect for them. So they will probably swim today while we sit in the spa.

Perhaps you remember, or even sang, this old round as a child.

Recovering from doing eight circus shows over three days, with each show involving three performances. Nearly got run over by an elephant.
We were doing our pre-anthem bit on the show floor. I noticed our band leader waving at me. I didn't know what he was waving about about and ignored him. Then I saw something out of the corner of my eye, a big, wrinkled, gray wall, an elephant wall, complete with elephant. I could have reached out and touched him easily. The elephant was being walked back to the elephant Green Room after giving pre-show rides to all the kiddies. I was standing out on the edge unknowingly right next to the elephant's pathway showing off to the crowd with my trombone held high. The elephant guy thought I was moving. I wasn't. I was swinging!
We did move in bit for our subsequent shows. And I have entered Shriner's lore.

It’s possible the elephant viewed your tromboning as a hostile move. Elephants dig piccolos but they have a different view of trombones. A trombone sounds like a rogue elephant looking for trouble. Piccolos sound like little birdies. I read this in a book about co-existing with Pachyderms and now I can move it into the useful information column.

We did move in bit for our subsequent shows. And I have entered Shriner's lore. I’m surprised you had elephants. I didn’t know any were still being used in shows. Fiddlerina had never been to a circus, so when the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus came to the Quad Cities on what turned out to be their last tour. I’m thinking it may have been 2016 or ‘17. They had already planned to quit using elephants and we knew it was the last chance to see elephants in a three-ring circus. Fiddlerina was impressed. On edit: I still have fond memories of the time in 1950 when some kind neighbors took my brother and I to see the RB,B&B Circus being set up. We had to be there around 6:00 AM, the circus train had already pulled into the fairgrounds. We got to watch the elephants helping the roustabout crews placing the equipment and setting up those enormous big-top tents and all the booth tents. Those were the days when the circus still had many tents and features and covered a lot of ground.

After my Mom fractured her hip, Hospital, 2 different rehab centers. A 911 call, emergency room and now going to an assisted living center. She has tried to kill herself twice in the last month. She is 95 and has nothing to live for she thinks. She has lost 40 pounds in two and a half months and I had her in hospice for 13 days to give her a chance to die peacefully but she is a tough old bird. I went to Vacaville, California to be with her but I got sick with their cold weather and came back to Iowa. 5 planes in 6 days can be a bit much. I will have to go back out there sometime again to settle her estate. On top of that her housekeeper of 8 years got her credit card and rang up 5,000 in charges and got one of her checks and did a bunch of ACH electronic checks to the tune of 29,000 bucks. My Mom is not being charged with any of it and waiting for the police to arrest the housekeeper. So that's how my life is going.

Here’s hoping for better times ahead.
