Anyone else watching it?
It's beautiful and compelling and the lead is a more believable Spade than Bogart, but it's so complicated, captioned, flashbacked, and history laden that I can't figure out what's going on. I really want to continue watching in hopes that by the end it will all come together. But I'm losing hope.

We're going to try it this evening. Her Grace is upstate with friends, so the TV is ours... bwa-ha-haaaa. Besides, we are Clive Owen fans and also fond of locations in the south of France.

We tried watching it in the past. I really wanted to like it, but couldn't figure out what the hell was going on.

I've only watched episode one. Still a little lost.

Sue and I watched it last year, stick with it, the confusion will clear a little bit.

We just finished Episode 2 and are enthralled. There was a bit of jumping around in time in the first episode, but we figured out the plot line pretty quickly. The countryside is beautiful, the clothes and sets are great, and the script is quite Dashiell Hammett-esque, riddled with that ping-pong dialogue that was so popular in the 1940s cinema. Really enjoying it.

We just watched episode 1. <SPOILER? Maybe?>
It's not clear yet how much San Francisco history has followed Spade to France. Teresa's mother is Brigid from The Maltese Falcon, right? Sam explains that he got her sent to prison, then sprung. I think we should watch The Maltese Falcon again. And read up on French politics around the Algerian War. <EDIT> The local police chief is telling Spade why he's concerned about Philipe's return. The subtitle says "I am a goalist" which I suppose should have read "Gaullist". Did French nationalists blame DeGaulle for the "loss" of Algeria? </EDIT>
So far it's great. Clive Owen is the even older, more jaded, Sam Spade. His expat journey, learning French, marrying, is all background. I've had to pay close attention, but it's hanging together so far. The Wikipedia summary is helpful.

I put it on our list but it might be something we’d have to buy separately.

Never heard of it. Sounds French to me. Is the American version called Mr. Shovel? I assume it’s on Prime or one of the twenty million other streaming services. Life will have to stumble on without it, I fear.

Netflix isn’t free. The best you can say is available for no extra charge if you already pay for Netflix.

Yes, the 1961 Citroën Ami 6. I had never seen one until we started watching this program yesterday. Oddball design, with covered rear wheel well, or whatever the technical term for that is, like the old bathtub Nash Rambler in my avatar here.
