GK was supposed to be Pat Donohue's mystery guest at Pat's weekly session at the Midway Saloon. Haven't seen anything about it on FB, where Pat always posts show announcements. I wonder how it went. (Pat's third anniversary show a few weeks ago was completely, overflowingly full.) That reminds me, how was the Mary Flower show in your neck of the woods?

I don't know but, based on my minimal fanaticism for Keillor (and my insane Minnesotan ex-wife), I'll take my chances. 😀 Well, he always speaks highly of YOU. This tour began last December at Town Hall in New York, after which GK posted on Facebook: "I do think it was a great show, better than most of the ones heard by millions on radio, this one heard by 1,200 New Yorkers," Keillor wrote. "Life is full of little ironies. The beauty of being 81 is that your ambition is washed away, and it's all about the pleasure of friendship, and that was a great audience. They're not fans, they're friends. And now onward to Nashville, Galveston, Austin, and who knows where else." After the three St. Paul shows, there's a one-nighter in Chicago and a finale in Moorhead, Minn., across the Red River from Fargo.

20 bucks? I'll wait for the recording to pop up on YouTube. Twenty bucks seems like a bargain to me, assuming it's video and audio. How do you know it will get on YouTube down the road?

Strib excerpt
Eight years after last hosting "A Prairie Home Companion" in the city that first put Lake Wobegon on the map, Garrison Keillor will head up a 50th anniversary edition of his radio show at St. Paul's Fitzgerald Theater on July 12-14.
Some of the mainstay "Prairie Home" cast members — including Sue Scott, Tim Russell, Fred Newman and musician Rich Dworsky — will join Keillor at the golden anniversary staging, along with singers Heather Masse and Christine DiGiallonardo.
The Fitzgerald Theater was home to "Prairie Home" for nearly four decades, going back to 1978 when it was still known as the World Theater. Former "APHC" distributor Minnesota Public Radio sold the theater in 2018 to First Avenue Productions.
Bill adds:
When: 7:30 p.m. (Central time) Fri. & Sat.; 3 p.m. Sun.
Where: Fitzgerald Theater, 10 E. Exchange St., St. Paul.
Tickets: $49.50. All shows are sold out. Saturday's show also will stream live for $19.99. Sign up at garrisonkeillor.com.

Excerpt from Grand Forks Herald:
The most humid weather on Earth is not found in Central Africa, Southeast Asia or the Amazon Rainforest. The highest dew point temperatures measured in the world are in the deserts of the Middle East. Excruciatingly hot summer temperatures over Saudi Arabia cause tremendous evaporation rates along the surrounding shallow ocean waters of the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, resulting in ridiculously high humidity in these coastal areas.
Dew point readings around 90 degrees are not uncommon in summer. The highest dew point ever known to have been measured was 95 degrees at Dhaharan, Saudi Arabia, on July 8, 2003. The air temperature at the time was 108 degrees, creating a Heat Index value of 178. The term “muggy” is not strong enough for such conditions.

Which can lead to eructile dysfunction. (Someone had to say it.)
Damnit he beat me to it. Well ... I was reading an essay and came to the following: "More ructions are surely to come." I'd never heard of a ruction. The dictionary defines it as "disturbance, uproar." If it happens online, it's an E-ruction.

Strib beer columnist:
On a hot summer evening a light, crisp lager might be the way to go. Super Mega Lager from Drekker Brewing Co. in Fargo is just that. This straightforward American lager has low bitterness and alcohol, so it won’t tax your palate or leave you feeling woozy. Light malt sweetness with hints of corn supports an easy dose of lemon and spice hops.

I have to say, that is too fast for me to enjoy. Fast is fine, breakneck fast where you can barely identify the tune isn’t, to me, anyway. I like both of them and love the tune, though. And might I add that they have always admired your slow, depressing work.

Excellent F1 race, exciting Indycar race, enjoyable golf ongoing, Chicago NASCAR race upcoming, and somehow I managed an hour away to make a Trader Joe's run. And 25-year-old Davis Thompson gets his first PGA win, playing with amazing skill.

Then I scrubbed em, dried em, armoralled em, and popped em back in. Armor All makes them look really nice and black, but also makes them very slippery underfoot.

One of my purchases was Lamb Vindaloo, w/ rice, which I just warmed up and enjoyed. The lamb was super-tender and the sauce was surprisingly spicy and flavorful.

(All times Central)
Formula 1: British Grand Prix 8:55 am ESPN2 (Top three qualifiers are all Brits -- Silverstone crowd should be going nutzo, and, of course, there's a good chance of rain.)
IndyCar: Honda Indy 200 1 pm NBC (From the very cool Mid-Ohio track, this race will feature the debut of Indycar's new required hybrid powerplant, developed jointly by Honda and Chevy, the series' two engine suppliers.)
NASCAR: Chicago Street Race 3:30 pm NBC (I don't usually watch NASCAR racing, but bruiser boys on the streets of the Loop could be entertaining.)
Plus the final day of the John Deere Classic in the Quad Cities, where the top four leaders are looking to notch their first PGA victories.
Some viewer discretion will be advised -- I can't watch 'em all.
p.s. Speaking of exercise, the Jimmy John's potato salad was surprisingly good, especially after enhancement with Louisiana brand Cajun seasoning.
