Three whitetails trotted through my front yard just now. I've never seen deer in mid-day hours in my block. It's always been dawnish or duskish hours.
Whatever that means.

Well, my morning has gone according to plan. I motored over to Lucky's 13, ordered the today-only Irish special and a Bloody Mary with their horseradish-fortified mix. The meal arrived -- thickly cut corned beef, a quarter-head of braised cabbage, roasted baby reds and carrots -- all done perfectly. Tasty.
As per usual, I could finish only about a third of it, but it traveled well, and will be supper tonight and lunch tomorrow.
It's how I justify eating out so often -- I get two or three meals per outing.
To be like Mike, I am now settled in to watch the Players tourney.

I visited Todd this afternoon and he had this note from Barb. It sounds LJ may be going home tomorrow if nothing else like that happens. Damn, wouldn't you think an aide or two would arm-grab him to the biffy?

Back from losing several pounds of hair and beard at Parkway Barbers and Hairstylists, with the happy news that George, my favorite barber ever, has a girlfriend! George was widowed about three years ago, and now, at 83, is clearly giddy about having a special someone again. Even better is where they met -- at a volunteer nonprofit operation that supplies needy people with clothing and other necessities. This is the shop's staff -- George is second from left. His hair is always full and perfect, natch.

Seems like when I get a few-and-far-between gig, it coincidently coincides with a time that they are in town for family stuff. You wordsmith, you!

Cloudy, chilly, breezy here. After I'm fully coffeed, I'll launch my weekly Circle O' Errands, with stops today at H&R Broke, Blaze Credit Union, Xfiniti store and Mi-Sant for a breakfast croissant -- I like the one with egg, cheese and Vietnamese ham, but I see they offer Spam as an option, might have to try that. They make amazing croissants, and some funky dragon baguettes, as well. Then it's off to the East Side for a haircut/beard trim from my favorite 83-year-old Italian barber and lastly a Trader Joe's run for oh so many things. Whew!

While we hope and pray for Todd's continued recovery, let us also be sending good vibes to DrLJ, who is undergoing significant ankle surgery today.
Hang in there, bro!

Word order is so important. I was worried Albert Einstein was theoretically born. Or, "Is theoretical scientist Albert Einstein born?" 1879 Albert Einstein, the theoretical physicist, was born. I hope you're happy now.
But he was demonstrably a physicist, not theoretically one.

I don't like the term, at least the way it's often used. I've even been known to drop my "ironic/sarcastic" facade to let people know that no, I do not appreciate someone else being called a bitch and yes, I'm serious. It's interesting that the qualities that tend to make female dogs what was called "alpha" - being a leader, ability to take charge of a situation, etc. - somehow become a pejorative/negative when women evidence those same qualities. My view was that the trainer was referring to two female dogs being in the same household, only that. I wouldn't read more into it.

I'm editing a piece about a Twin Cities dog trainer, which contained this gem:
“Alpha is kind of an old-fashioned term,” Madrinich said. Multiple dogs living in the same house usually figure out among themselves who’s the boss. It’s not necessarily the oldest or biggest. Female dogs often tend to be take charge, natural leaders.
“Girls love you, but boys love to love you,” she said. When someone wants to buy a dog, she recommends males, because they’re more eager to please. With two dogs, one of each sex is the best combination. Two males are OK, but two females are less easy. With two female dogs, both want to be the leader. “We call them bitches for a reason.”

It's Pi Day, 3.14! Get out there and do your part. Just down the street from me is Keys Cafe, and their well-stocked pie/cake case.

I was aware of the basics of Todd's situation, but was also pledged to keep quiet about it. How wonderful that he has improved to where we can now discuss things openly with his blessing.
Tough guy, that Todd. Proud of you, sir.

I just tumbled to the fact that it's Aquaduct's bday -- hope it was a great one, Peter.
I think we should adopt a Soundhole protocol that whoever creates the daily thread also checks the birthday thingie and acknowledges it accordingly.

It's a "take me now, Lord! I have climbed the mountain!" solo for trombonists. You ever played it? On edit: "Bolero," I mean, not the trombone.

Ravel's "Bolero" was just played on the wireless -- basically a 17-minute crescendo.
Any drummers here who have ever had to play that snare part in high school or college or community orchestra?
I can't imagine how a percussionist would have any regard for the piece beyond dread. (Even though I really like it as a listener, always have.)

That's what it was. Very tasty! I had it as a Blizzard er...Concrete Mixer. I am also a big fan of their fried shrimp -- not greasy, large, and the cocktail sauce is quite tasty. Did your baskieball team win?
