One year instead of stuffing the bird with breadcrumbs, etc., I precooked a couple of extra drumsticks and stuffed them in there with some apple slices. No fighting over dark meat that year. I ran across this last week in the Strib: Don't hold the mayo: The secret to crispy skin? Chef Adam Eaton insists that it's mayonnaise. "I know that people like to rub butter on a turkey, but I like mayonnaise. It gives the turkey an even browning. It doesn't run down the side of the turkey, it sticks to it a little better than butter. And it keeps the inside extremely moist. I use tons of mayonnaise and rub it all over the bird, just a thin coating. It's kind of gross, for sure, but it works. You have to make sure that the skin is absolutely dry before you rub in the mayonnaise, and you have to use real mayonnaise." That means step away from the Miracle Whip.

The Boston Globe sports page noted Dick’s passing this Sunday.

My Mum introduced me to him when I was very young. I appreciated him from the get go. Just too funny not to.

Does anyone here listen to podcasts and have any they recommend? Now that I have a commute and I’m taking more walks, I need some aural distractions. I’m not really interested in true crime or politics (which apparently make up 90% of podcasts), but other than that I’m open to ideas. I think I may have subscribed to a few but I don’t listen to them. I mostly don’t care to hear opinions and generally prefer reading to listening. I don’t relish the thought of being influencerized. Heh.

I've long been a fan of this songwriter. Here's a more than just adequate cover. youtu.be/E5O39nZB9sAI took a songwriting session at OTSFM with Susan Werner. It was fun. She was nice. She liked my Nick Lucas guitar. She said, "That fits you." Marshall. What is OTSFM?

Don’t know about pros, but I’ve been alerted and will be performing. Heh. Performance Rights Organizations (PRO) such as ASCAP and BMI. They’ve been known to shut down open mics and businesses for non-payment. They shut down our open mic at the ice cream shop in town, bummer.

I was assuming that there might be a reason that in-person votes couldn't be counted. But condescending snark works well too. So you don't acknowledge that you drop these enigmatic bombs on us with the expectation that we will (a) understand them, or (b) confirm that we are too dense to? Myself, I am too dense to unravel strings of snark especially when from different posters. I prefer direct discussion from the posters. (Even when including thinly veiled references.)

Most members here won’t be familiar with all the very sad “dying children” songs people used to write. Things like the Carter Family’s Little Joe or Bill Monroe’s Put My Little Shoes Away. You may be familiar with the tune I Am Weary, Let Me Rest, sung by the Cox Family in the film O Brother Where Art Thou. I think that may have been written by Pete Kuykendall. Pete also wrote There’ll Be No Blind Ones There.
Dub, you just can't play a sad song on the {fill in blank}... Jaw harp. Twangety twang twang twang.
