When the weather was just right, if you shuffled your feet just right, and held the paten just right, you could jump a nice spark onto the chin of the unfortunate communicant.
That was good sport.

Hillary Clinton is a Protestant.
It all becomes clear now.

Funny, I don't recall any books like that being part of the deal. I wonder if they were just a local special where you lived or if we didn't get them for some other reason. If you didn't get the "Childcraft" books with your set of WB encyclopedias, your door to door salesman was a rip-off. You should track him down and find out what happened to the rest of your set. Don't tell me you didn't get the "Annuals" every year either! If so, you need to fire off an angry letter to someone.

I distinctly remember the salesman sitting in our living room with my parents. Probably 1951 or so. He and my dad in suits and my mom all dressed up. I heard him talking about the Childcraft books and how they had to think of my education. I really wanted them so I remember getting a fire engine and went into the living room pushing it around making siren noises so they would feel guilty if they did not fork over the cash. They were orange as I recall and came with their own little wooden book rack.

I am so glad you were able to overcome the blow and turn out relatively well. (Aside from your unfortunate choice of current associates of course).

Acolyte here. Lutheran. Pastor Johnson. Good hymns. Good choir. Church ladies. Weak coffee, lots of cakes and cookies and dessert bars. Endearing times.

Everything turned out fine Just like the salesman said it would.

We got the annuals but I don't recall the other books. My sister may have stolen them.

Speaking of annuals, has anyone here planted their zinnias and marigolds yet? It's a tad early, but I'm ready to give her a go. Soil temps are climbing.
