I have copied this to my hard drive. When we meet you are buying the beer or your wife gets sent a copy. Oh, I told her at the time. She thought it was funny. She probably laughs about it every time she adds a little kitty litter to your scrambled eggs.

Another feature of the front/back cameras are called "drive recorders" here. They record so that in the event of a crash, you might be proven right--no, you weren't over the line, or yes, you were actually stopped when that other person hit you, my light was still green when I entered the intersection, and so on. In the US, civil rights folks have still been sucessful in keeping data recorders out of personal vehicles, although places like California have tried like hell to implement those measures. Personally, I think that's great.

Every other piece of electronics has gotten cheaper, but not cars. A car isn't electronics. It's the other stuff that makes the whole package more complicated and expensive.

Oh, and don’t get me started on $150 keys. WTF is that? On the other hand, I'll never lose mine since I never have to take it out of my pocket.

In September my wife bought me a new F-150 Lariat crew cab for 30 years of marriage. Previously I've always driven pieces of crap ranging from a $150 LTD wagon with bad brakes to an annoying 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid required to win the "commute into DC" game.
Now I can push a button on the steering wheel and make a phone call without taking my eyes off the road. I've got a hands-free GPS navigation system to get me where I have to go. I've got a stereo that plays CDs, regular radio, and satellite radio. I've got a crew cab that will carry 5 adults comfortably. I've got a bed with a protective factory spray-on bed liner that will hual somewhere north of 2000 lbs. of crap to the landfill. I've got a 35 gallon fuel tank that helps the truck go about 600 miles between fill ups- enough to get to my mother's house in Michigan without stopping for gas. And speaking of Michigan, I've got 2WD and traditional 4WD AND 4 wheel all-wheel-drive like your garden variety Subaru. Great asset in Michigan winters. And the 5.0L engine has a factory supercharger package that will ramp horsepower north of 600 ponies when installed (it's based on the same engine in the current Mustangs). Now I just have to work on convincing my wife.
Frankly I don't know what my point is. But I'm pretty sure I'll be able to pass that truck on to my kids when I pass on. And they'll probably still love it.

I'll bet that F-150 Lariat went for north of 35 grand. But you're right, 250,000 miles is quite doable on modern cars/pus and they get better gas mileage. Ford's twin turbo eco-tech engines are the bomb! (and 10 grand for the V-6 almost reasonable ). They've been on the market long enough that I'd expect to be hearing long term maintenance problems with them, but I haven't so I'm guessing they're pretty well engineered too. Nice truck Peter!
