The shutdown is affecting surveyors. One of the more useful government services was to provide processing of static GPS observations by OPUS (Online Positioning User Service). That service is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Surveyors are having to find other methods to process their data. Not life or death but inconvenience.
I just learned of another. Universal wanted to perform a "balloon test" on their property in Orlando. It would involve sending up large balloons for some reason or another. I just learned that the FAA personnel who would process the permits are off also.
Again not life or death but mos def an impediment to bidness.
I sure there are lots of other professions that are experiencing similar inconveniences. I sure hope someone blinks soon.

Got a call from the DirecTV guy because he followed GPS and there's no house at my address. I gave him directions and he's here now. I tried to tell them GPS wouldn't get him here. It's funny. My son's GPS in his Mazda finds us but most people wind up down at the south end of the neighboring farm and there's no house there. So, by all means, Alan, fix the GPS first, then build the wall or you might put the wall at the wrong place.
