Phew! Bloody hot. 40.2°C, (104.36°F) in London. Britain/Britons not very well equipped to comfortably cope with it.

Through the years it's become a tradition of sorts to go to the barber for hair clippings and shaves in different countries I visit. Not an endless source of interesting anecdotes but often a mildly interesting cultural diversion.

Bonus post! There is an excellent documentary on Netflix about the sometimes messy and toxic relationship between the evangelical church and LGBTQ people. It revolves around the history and resurgence of so-called 'conversion therapy', some form of which has been inflicted on 700,000 Americans. Told through the stories of some of the main figures involved, an informative, insightful and emotional exploration. If you're able, I recommend watching the full film. LGBTQ people really need well informed and compassionate allies right now. www.prayawayfilm.com/

There are occasionally days in the UK when we would appreciate air conditioning. Domestic AC, is very uncommon here*. Today is one of those. It hasn't yet broken heat records as was forecast**. After checking in on and rehydrating my sweltering, aged papa, I have returned home, drunk lots of water, closed the windows and drawn the curtains in my South facing living room and slumped into the sofa. On the bright side, it's nice to wear a sarong on days like these.
* Some hospitals don't have AC either
**Correction, it has in some places according to the evening news. 2°C above previous record in Wales. Tomorrow likely to be hotter in some places.

The Heather Cox Richardson and Katelyn Jetelina links that I have posted are Substack accounts. Epaul is/has been a paying subscriber to the latter. The Bari Weiss link that Aquaduct posted recently was to a Substack page. There have been others. Andrew Sullivan? Paul Kingsnorth. ETA - a bit more info. I've not read or double-checked much of it but it seems fairly legitimate. backlinko.com/substack-users

Gay teens are sometimes rejected and abused emotionally and/or physically by their parents. A not uncommon part of the reason is that the parents are religious fundamentalists of various religions and denominations. Often abuse and rejection and homelessness occurs when an LGBTQ teen is outed or comes out to their parents. Some teens need a hide button on the LGBTQ related resources they access online to stay safe.
I worked as a homelessness officer and in finding temporary accommodation for homeless people in a large London Borough. At that time, The Salvation Army, a significant provider of beds, would refuse to provide equal services including shelter beds to gay people. (Although young gay and trans people were and still are, usually understandably, reluctant to stay in a lot of shelters anyway as they are disproportionately unsafe there, which is one reason that a lot of street homeless teenagers are LGBTQ).

I've read both articles. They sort of complement each other. The men's 10,000m final in the athletics didn't need my undivided attention. It was business as usual for the Kenyan runners. It may be quite a while before I have fully appraised and thought of a solution for the corn mill situation. 🙂

"Q" is a confusing letter to title a chat page with. What is Q chat? Is "Q" that character from Q Anon and Q chat is about Q Anon stuff? Is "Q" that omnipresent character from Star Trek and Q chat is a Trekie forum? Is "Q" for queer, a term that puts a lot of pressure on the concept of reverse psychology working. I'd sort of shakily assumed it was the Q in L GBTQ. Queer (or Questioning?) but had some similar thoughts initially. (Star Trek didn't figure though).

The big news here is that the Met Office has issued a code red heatwave warning for the first time ever in advance of what are predicted to be the UK's hottest temperatures ever on Monday and Tuesday. Europe is being hit by record temperatures and wildfires already.

The Q Chatspace is not "the Government's". It was mentioned along with various other web resources on a CDC webpage. FWIW , about the links the CDC page states .... Links to non-Federal organizations found at this site are provided solely as a service to our users. These links do not constitute an endorsement of these organizations or their programs by CDC or the Federal Government, and none should be inferred.
