I'd love to get the chance to go up in the loft and see the rafters on this. You might be disappointed. It might be sheet roofing material over corrugated metal sheeting. That isn’t a barn, it’s a corn crib, or at least that’s what it looks like to me.

Now I just play what moves me and try to sing them as best I can. I have a pretty eclectic batch from 60s, a few classic rock types that don't require a lead break, mostly country. There is (IMHO) some pretty good country that they loosely call "Red Dirt Country"- coming out of Texas, of course: Cody Johnson, Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen (my latest infatuation), and others that I have mixed with the older country stuff. If someone doesn't like Country, they probably will not care for it but I can only do what I can do and I don't even try to play lead or fingerstyle anymore. I don't need the frustration . Looking forward to it. Love & Light, ya'll. In my opinion you’ve always chosen good music to play. I can’t imagine anything has changed in that regard.

When I logged into SH on Chrome I was blocked. "Your IP address has been blocked from access." I tried it with Firefox and got the same result. I'm logged in now using Nord VPN that blocks my IP address from being seen. Strange. I was able to log into Acoustic Guitar Forum and other places with no VPN and no issues. Weird. Factorychef has had this issue too and with a different VPN. The problem is that the VPN substitutes your real IP address with a made up one to mask your location. If that made up IP looks like it’s from a blocked country or area, access will be denied. Try logging in without the VPN then activate the VPN after logging in here. You can also tell Nord VPN to use an IP from the US or UK or somewhere that isn’t blocked.

I have never heard of any of those people. Todd, "Marshall" is the guy from Chicago who used to come to IdiotJam. He has a lot of letters in his last name but he plays guitar and sings well. Writes his own stuff, too.

I have never heard of any of those people. You have, you just aren't making the connection. Tommy Emanuel and Bob Minner videos have been posted here. Jorma Kaukonen was a founder of Jefferson Airplane ( One pill makes you larger…) and Hot Tuna. The makers' names have been discussed here as well.

Just just curious. I really don’t like the task of changing strings. At all. I hate it, actually. But I’m sure there are people out there who like doing it for some reason. Is anyone here one of those people? I've never minded changing them. I've never avoided it because of the work involved. Long ago, when I was playing a lot more, I could change strings between sets if needed. It took maybe 10 minutes. These days I spend more time doing it. I also have a nice table that cranks up and down just for the purpose now. I don't enjoy the job on a 12-string and I don't look forward to changing mandolin strings even with my James Tailpiece.

This is the tune that introduced me to DVR--it's the last item in one of the Oak fingerpicking books, and I still can't manage the whole thing, though pieces of it leaked into my playing. A great tune that brings back many fond memories. My late brother Paul used to play that. He had it down and well. He also did what I guess was a Van Ronk interpretation of Merle Travis’s Saturday Night Shuffle. I learned that from Paul and used to play it but I became dissatisfied with it because it sounded way too folky compared to what Merle actually played. In 1963 I worked with a black actor/singer named Herb Jones in Chicago. We played the folk clubs and bars on Chicago’s Near North side. One of the tunes we did was an arrangement of Van Ronk’s Green Rocky Road. Part of that song comes from children’s street songs, sung to warn prostitutes upstairs that the police were coming. Herb had direct experience with that and also knew the calls of the alleyway rag men. Herb had a terrific voice and really nailed it. Since then I’ve come up with another arrangement of Green Rocky Road I kinda like. It’s basically Van Ronk’s but with more chords.

Wow! I guess it has been a while. Not only did I not remember having any DVR songs to "brush up", I had a similar reaction. I didn’t recall hearing you play any Van Ronk tunes. Doc may be thinking of another surveyor.

I use round-core strings with some frequency but I don’t buy them because they are round-core, there is usually some other reason I buy them. I don’t remember disliking a set because they were round-core.

I have the idea that round-core strings aren’t the new thing, they are the old thing. Hex- core is the “new” thing. I think some people buy round-core thinking they’ll get some kind of retro tone or vibe.
