I've never seen Ed in concert and would like to. His arrangements are always interesting. I played his arrangement for "Water Is Wide" at stepdaughter Jill's wedding years ago. It went over very well. I have always wanted to steal some of his lap slide arrangements but never got to it.

Gorgeous. Falls of water, or just water in general, is not all that common out here.
Thank goodness for gravity.

Pleasant weather today. The home owners assoc. is recoating the roads in our subdivision over the next week. They do our street tomorrow and we can't drive on it for 36 hours. So we'll run our errands today so we can hunker down for a couple days. Of course that day is also Linda's birthday. We usually go out to dinner, but that'll have to wait until the weekend. But I already have her presents in the house, so we can still celebrate at home.

I want to do the JJ Cale tune "Call Me The Breeze". I'm not sure what had me searching for this the other day. I think I was trying to figure out who the young kid was and what had happened to him since. I’m going after something like this.

I have read that people in Mexico don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It is only observed here in the States. That's probably because Mayonnaise is that common in Mexico. Eric will come by for practice today. We don't have a gig until the end of May, so we can try some new tunes for a change. I want to do the JJ Cale tune "Call Me The Breeze". And maybe "Crazy Mama".

Sounds like a great day well spent, Howard.
I can certainly relate to comment regarding the absence of another "gotta have it" guitar. Marcia bought me a Roger McGuinn Seven string a few years ago, and I acquired an Anniversary D18. They are on the wall with the Clarence White that I played at the factory. ( As CFM does not sell at the factory, I took down the serial number and had my local shop order it for me. ) Are there better guitars, guitars that would fit me even better? Probably. But I am not seeking them out. There is one that I played: Mike Wonder's D-1 Collings. Whoo boy. What a sweetie! And the guitar, too.
I mention it because it reminds me that not all guitars with the same designation are the same. In 1972 I had the wherewithal to afford a D18. I went into THE BIG CITY of Cleveland, OH and bought one. There were several and I did not know then to try 'em all. To this day I wonder if I passed up a diamond for a cubic zirconia. But no, no regrets. It was $287.38 - includes tax and hard shell case- well spent. Still owned, still played. Froon My D-18 is from either 1993 or 1994. I can never remember which. Nice guitar. It seems new to me but 1993 was 31 years ago. How is that possible? My HDC-35 (Cedar top) is vintage 1992. The claim I can make with most of my guitars is that they were made in later half of the last century. The older I get, the more relevant that becomes.

Like LJ, I've never set foot in a Sam Ash store.
But my experience with their business itself showed me they were pretty shady. I signed up with them (via an internet service) to direct people visiting my web site to their site (for a commission on any sales it generates). But the company stiffed me on paying any of the commissions I earned. So I dropped them. Musician's Friend on the other hand payed a lot of commissions during that same time.

We took Rocky to see the eye surgeon last week and he was given a clean bill of health on his recovery from cataract surgery. So he was able to enjoy some swimming over the weekend. Today we take him back to Internal Medicine where they will check his liver values again. They are expected to be back to normal since the cessation of steroids a few weeks ago. If the reading is normal, we'll also stop any further antibiotics.

I know pretty much nothing about the law, but in following the court's decisions over the years it does seem that the conservative justices want to consider themselves textualists. As I understand that, it means they look only to what is specifically written in the text of the constitution. This was what drove the abortion decision (nothing in the constitution specifically protects it).
So it seems more than ironic that these same conservative justices now seem to be bending over backward to try to "create" new rules that clearly are not in the constitution. Gorsuch admitted as much during the arguments while the liberal justices (equally ironic) were pointing out that the constitution text had no statements for presidential immunity.

Yesterday’s gig went well for the first two sets. Then it started to rain. We were in this huge covered area, tucked off to the side. Mostly to get away from the 20 mph winds. It turns out the “only” spot under that entire covered area where the roof leaked was directly over me. Within minutes it was clear we had to stop and move our gear. The outlet strip got wet, but that was after we pulled the plug. So we never did play the 3rd set.

I must admit, I did not know this. That store was much more than just a music shop.

I ran through all 3 sets of music (with sound) today in preparation for Friday’s gig. Now it’s time for pizza.

This reminds me of Mike Dowling’s Ecclectricty album. Unlike anything he was known for. Very different. Sort of a French Bistro vibe.

Eric and I have a gig next Friday. So today we will run through as much of our setlist as we can get through. It's grueling to run through all three hours worth in one sitting. But such as it is. If you're going to do it live you have to be able to do it in practice, even the 15 minute breaks and then back at it. I'm just glad I never endeavored to "stand" while playing. I have to respect guys like Doyle Dykes, Pat Donohue, Tommy Emmanuel, and many others who perform standing up. You have to practice playing that way also.

Interesting. The only value add that Martin made was specifying a solid piece of wood for the base. The rest of the mechanism was probably manufactured by some Chinese company. Martin most certainly didn't manufacture these. In fact, they probably just gave the company some wood and said make 25 of your turntables with our wood and logo. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost them around $250 per. So there'd be profit in every one.
But it does seem as though Taylor and Martin are doing what the old Gibson company did. Branch out into other brand labelled musical gear. I do wonder how much money that stuff makes for them.
