In Iowa we’re wondering how much flooding. The warmth of the north is going to send down to us. Do you still have melting snow up there in Minneapolis?

It's suddently spring here. I'm keeping my eye on my ditch to see if the asparagus is coming up yet. It's a bit early, I know, but it's one of my favorite parts of spring.

I've got retirement coming in a few years. I'm always thinking of a small camper van. Just that van size. And the more I think about it the less I care about what it might cost. I don't need a great one or a new one.

the kind of lettuce, the kind of bread, anything with it or not with it aside, what is out there that can't be improved with a bit of bacon? Nothing. Even Canadians like Rick Waugh surely wouldn't turn down a couple slices of bacon added to a serving of poutine.

She ended up 47th in the world. This was her final competition, now it's on to college. She'll be attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison next fall. Time does fly. I thought she was 13 when I met her, and that seems like last year. I wish her the best. Weather can be a fine Easter gift, and a great symbol of dark days coming to warmth and light. The sun is shining, and it's a day to be spent outside.

I can't necessarily see you wanting one, but I can see you really wanting to play around with one for a week or so, Marshall. Am I correct on that?

I've never been there, but have never associated the Grand Canyon with snow. That's quite the picture. I wonder what is suspected from all of that snow. A quick melt and a rapid but brief flooding of the canyon?

out for dinner last night, we added "buri-kama" to what was otherwise a set menu course--and big, we shared this. Kama is usually the 'collar' or neck area, this place served it with the head, too (usually just kind of the righthand chunk). Chopsticks at the bottom for scale. No thanks. I'd love to try that.

Morning. It is going to be another late planting season in the North. Early has already passed and I don't see how we can make middle unless everything breaks to perfect, so put your money on late. We got away with it last year, we shall see. It's always something. Will you get your potatoes planted today? The weather is finally shaping up rather nicely around here, and us Iowans are looking forward to a very pleasant week coming up.

When I had a pair of New Balance tennis shoes, I'd wear them into a high school kids would call them "hey kid get off of my lawn" shoes. Which, I thought, was pretty funny.

I have wide feet too. Wide enough that my footprint is almost round. I do a lot of walking, and have a pair of Brooks Beast that I just love.

The recommendations from the CDC (which I think are reasonable) are: 1. Isolate for 5 days, with the first day of symptoms being day zero. 2. After day 5, if there has been no fever for 24 hours AND symptoms have started to improve, isolation may end. 3. A mask should be worn for an additional 5 days when around other people. Rick is correct that testing status is not useful for determining when it is safe to exit isolation or stop wearing a mask. Off the top of your head, Shannon, how many times have you repeated that in the last two years?

Those are mute swans, which are beautiful to see, but are not native to North America, like the black billed trumpeter swans that are making quite a comeback around here at least. I'd bet they'll be returning to the park or other placid place they drifted from this winter soon.

Apparently there was golf ball sized hail in Cedar Rapids, where Dub and Joy live, early this morning. Like Paleo said, more storms to come later.

Off=-topic, but the lives lost in the American Civil War is nothing short of astounding. Gettysburg alone......
The ultimate result was necessary, but I often wonder if there would have been a way to lower the price for both sides. I would think there most likely was.

I definitely remember that night. We were at the high school auditorium in Vinton. That's the night Lonnie easly swooned my wife Kim into being a fan. I still find it a great testimony to Lonnie that while he knew so many well-known musicians, he chose to hang around us. He was a huge talent but more importantly just a down to earth affable guy, and that means a lot.

I don’t need one. I’ve lined my entire music room in tinfoil, because as we all know, it’s alien thought waves that make guitars go out of tune. (They’re actually not out of tune, it’s just that the thought waves make it sound like that. Diabolical bastards, those aliens.) I hope you left a chain of paper clips out the window of the music room to the ground. It's the only way the foil will work.

I am leery of Indian food. Todd tells me I just haven’t had the right Indian food and I might like it if I did. I dunno. with the Raj going on for so long, there is plenty of what might be considered Indian food which is actually a fusion between British and Indian. If you are new to Indian, you might want to start with that. An example of that is butter chicken, known by other names like tikka masala. Not exactly the same thing depending on where you to but close enough it'd be a good introduction Indian food of you're not used to it. Another delicious example might be mulligatawny soup. Indian food had also combined with Portuguese food, as they ruled many years on the western coast. Things on an Indian restaurant menu tagged "vindaloo" is an example of that.
