I loved that song the first time I heard it. I never put much credence into a music video, but that video nailed it. Now I Love the song that much more.

I was a kid in school. Vietnam was something that was just there. Like the weather report or waking up in the same bed to the same people. It was there when kids my age were born and there until we were 13 and around when boat people started joining us in school. It was constant chatter among adults, and Life Magazine along with its photos seemed to be everywhere. That Napalm girl, naked and fleeing with other children in absolute terror is my age. That's the photo that caught the attention of us kids. At nine we weren't able to grasp what was going on in Vietnam no matter how many times someone explained it. Nine year olds aren't built for that. But the facial expressions of kids the same age is something all children can understand. That photo explained a whole lot to us. And our collective hearts did a big thump.

There is a new blind student in my area who I became aware of this week. He is from the Marshall Islands. I spoke to a friend and colleague of mine who works in the agency north of me today as she has three Marshallese students. Funny thing. My new student and all three of hers have very similar visual diagnoses of having no eyes or having severely under-developed eyes. We both made note that the Bikini Atoll is a coral reef in the Marshall Islands. And that it doesn't take a whole lot of googling to discover that the radiation levels in that area are still considered unfit for life.

I have used an air fryer to soft boil eggs. Me too. And hard boiled. I love my air fryer.

I attended a Celebration of Life, yesterday for an old friend/coworker. I was hoped to see some of the people we used to work with, but didn't see any. Other than the family there were only 3 people I recognized I went to a Celebration of Life like that last summer. It was really a potluck with family and friends, people stood up and said great things about the guy. Besides me there was just one co-worker. John had been retired for 5 years and almost everyone else in his cohort had retired as well, leaving only a couple of us dinosaurs to remember who he was. But the celebration with his family was just a wonderful thing.

I am thoroughly confused and won't ask anyone to take the time for an explanation. If you would have run twice, Don, I would have voted for you twice.

A Chinese balloon seems quite tame considering that they invented gunpowder and fireworks.

I just went into the garage and opened the door so I could see what was going on without falling on the ice. I couldn't tell if what I heard was rain falling or ice on tree branches crackling in the wind. I got a pair of these several years ago and they work really great for walkingon ice. I've used them during ice storms before. What I found out today is that they don't do any good if you can't find them.

For road conditions I rely on 511ia.org. I assume there's a similar site for every US state.

All three make sense. I've got the first three covered. All three make sense. I've got the second two covered. Just editing myself here.

Lunchtime walk around the pond. The picture does not adequately convey the amount of road noise from the nearby interstate. [/quote] Part of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail parallels I-380 as it cuts through Cedar Rapids. I walked it once, man was it loud.

I made a giant pot (dutch oven) of ham and bean soup Monday, I'll be noshing on that through Friday. I have fallen in love with mayocoba beans. If you use dried beans, try them. They have the best creamiest texture and a wonderful flavor. Instead of simmering soup on the stove, I've discovered that putting a lid on the Dutch oven and putting it in the oven at 300 degrees works very well.

11:30 and all is well at my place. There have been a few sprinkles but nothing of consequence yet. If the predictions are accurate I'll be right on the edge of snow/ ice and the ice/rain later today. Last evening on the weather they said the time most likely to have significant ice was between 6: and 9: am. Maybe, cross my fingers, I'll be lucky. It's 1:17 now and just fell splat on my butt stepping outside to check the weather because it looked like nothing was happening. I haven't done today's Wordle yet. I don't think it's a spoiler alert to say a friend texted his results, he lost, saying too many choices.
