Thirty or so years ago, I hosted a summer student from France. During our ride home after collecting her at the airport I asked her how her trip over had been. I no longer remember all the details but she said they landed first at Day-Twa. It took me a few seconds to realize she was just pronouncing Detroit correctly. You shudda taken her to Des Plaines. RAYGUN, a pretty cool T shirt store that started in Des Moines and has spread to a few other Iowa Communities and now Chicago, Kansas City and Omaha, is known for it's quirky statments, quite a few about locales. I saw my favorite several years ago: Des Moines: French for The Moines.

I went to bed and hour early last night to thwart off losing an hour of sleep last night. Woke up to a cloudy and windy day, high around 30. I'm definitely ready for spring. I polished off a cheese omelet and a slice of whole grain toast with peanut butter for supper. It went down pretty good.

Trump's plane looks better. I don't like baby blue. Too wimpy. That plate looks like a hood ornament.

I always been fascinated by the very idea that Spain was exploring and making a mark on what is now the southwest United States even in the 1500s. Growing up in the upper midwest geographically close to the Mississippi I did not know that as a student. I'm sure it was mentioned but surely not emphasized. We were too busy learning about Squanto and Massasoit and all the French fur traders moving up and down the Mississippi.

I Don't know if my guitar has fret markers or not because I never look for them. But I use the side dots all the time.

It was supposed to be snowing at 9:00. Then it was supposed to be snowing at 10:00. Then it was supposed to be snowing at 11:00. Then it was supposed to be snowing at 12:00. Then it was supposed to be snowing at 1:00. Now it's supposed to be snowing at 8:00.
Happy anniversary, Don. Sounds like a good day.

I've been to Como Zoo. We took our kids there when they were young a couple times. It is a nice place for humans to visit, and a nice place for animals as well. These are animals that are not from the wild and wouldn't know how to survive there but Como Zoo is an example of a place that gives them a nice place to live. And a place for them to teach us a bit about the importance of conservation of wild land. I'm sure my family has all met Daisy, and I'll wish her a most pleasant RIP.
By the way, she was a Masai giraffe, not a reticulated giraffe.

I recall with great delight how blown away Howard was with his first-ever fish fry encounter at the Vinton VFW, which was one of the more unremarkable ones I've ever been to, not helped by our getting there at the tail end of the show. But then, where he lives is basically a food desert. They fry up this wonderful looking fish, then put it in electric roasters to keep it warm, which makes the crust all soggy.

I'm sitting in a car dealership waiting for an oil change for the state car I drive. We used to be able to get things done on state cars about anywhere but now we have to go to specific dealers. Considering I use work time for this, iw was a bad decision. When I got here for my 10:15 appointment they said it should be ready by noon.

Another cloudy day in the mid 40s. I love Iowa, but it can be really ugly looking this time of year.

From the Snopes article Russel posted:
That explains a line from an old Hank Snow song, I always wondered why a different gauge would be mentioned, I had always thought there would have always been one:

Mostly cloudy, up to the mid 40s. Spring is making a very slow climb up hill, and I welcome that.
