I had it in the back of my head that he was not coming to IJ, glad to hear that is not the case! I'm not positive, but early in the IJam thread he said it depended on his outing with brothers which has happened. We have two brother get-togethers. Four days in June, and four days in September. (and every other year or so, it varies, four mid-winter days in AZ). And this year's fall get-together precludes I-Jam (and Newfest, which I have probably performed at 15-20 times. For years, I MC'd the parade with Donny Larson, my lovely side-kick). Rescheduling wasn't possible as Anna is getting married on the 15th and one of my brothers is just getting back from Ireland on Labor Day. (and the end of September is just too late for dependable good golf and lake weather up in these parts). I do enjoy my drive down to Iowa for I-Jam. And I truly enjoy I-Jams. Next year, with no wedding and no Ireland, I'm going to make it work.

We watched "Sing" last night (ok, so I have a bit of lag time). Even if I had ten thousand guesses, I would never have guessed that the rat was voiced by Matthew McConaughey. www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2HSbTUL_YAMight watch "Sing 2" tonight.

Today is International Play Music on the Porch Day, a date that I mark on my calendar in advance. It just came to my attention that today is also National Dog Day. Get out there and play music on the porch with your dog. Does a fourth-floor balcony count as a porch?
It can, but be aware, there is a difference between peeing off your porch and peeing off your balcony, and it is a difference that can matter.

60F on its way to a short-lived 73F. Tomato season is ending and my apples are starting to show their rosy blush. So it goes. Seasons have their day.

Last year Cowboy's rookie defensive end, Sam Williams was arrested for reckless driving resulting in a two-car accident that put him and the other driver in the hospital. Williams was driving 98 mph in a 40 mph zone.
This past weekend, Williams was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon while driving 66 miles per hour in another 40 mph zone.
In response to Williams second arrest, Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, said he saw signs of a growing maturity in Williams, as he was speeding more slowly this year than he was last year.

Good morning. I'm grumbly this morning. As I've mentioned, my seizure in May caused an automatic suspension of my driving privileges for ninety days. The ninety days were up on August 18th. But I still can't drive until a medical review panel at the Department of Transportation concludes that I'm safe. Before they decide, I have to submit one or more certifications from the relevant doctors that I'm not dangerous. The team of specialists who treated me concluded that there was nothing neurologically wrong and that the problem was low sodium levels, a problem which is now fully under control. I was nonetheless referred to a new neurologist to get the necessary certification for the state. The neurologist understandably won't certify anything until he draws his own conclusion, starting from scratch with my fourth brain MRI of the year and an EEG. He's in no hurry. To put it mildly. It has occurred to me that since the problem wasn't neurological, the state may also want to hear from a nephrologist who can identify the cause of my seizure and certify that it's under control. My nephrologist is a good guy who actually gives a shit. I think I can get him to submit a certification. But even after I assemble enough certifications to satisfy the state, its medical review panel may not get to my case for weeks. Whenever it does, I'll then have to get a new driver's license because (I've learned) they automatically revoke the driver's license of anyone who has a seizure. It's looking like a month or more may easily elapse before this gets resolved. There's really no villain in this story but I'm not very happy about it. Other than that it should be a good day. Hope it's a good one for all of you. Wordle 796 4/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ 🟨🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Don, two words. North Dakota! If you can find your car, you can drive it.

I tried to watch for a bit, but I couldn't hear a darn thing they were saying, some a-hole was practicing Sousa runs on his trombone. Had to go for a walk with Casper just to get away from the noise.

Ditto the Major.
I read the book three years or so ago per his recommendation. And the book was a gem on several levels, the treasure itself being just one of them.

Morning!
Be careful out there. A fellow I know darn near killed himself in the shower this morning. And he was even mostly sober (I think).

War and Peace. I saw a write up of the best Historic Novels, and that was near the top of the list. It was only $.99 on Amazon Kindle, so I said, "What the heck." I have interest in Russia and Napoleon. Maybe this will work out. I only read 1 chapter so far. If you are still trying to read "War and Peace" come I-jam, Todd will personally give you five bucks. If you finish it by Christmas without skipping paragraphs and pages by the dozens and dozens, he will give you another five bucks. If you tap out and try watch the 42 hour PBS version on DVD instead without fast forwarding and naps, he will give you yet another five bucks.

I just finished the last of the Slough House books by Mick Herron. I wish there were more. I hope there will be more. Not your typical sort of spy series but one of the best I've read. Herron can really write. Enjoyable absurdity and bleak, unflinching realism go hand in hand page by page.
His Jackson Lamb character is the most memorable and enjoyable I have run across since Ignatius J. Reilly in A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (I hope I haven't revealed too much of myself). Herron's Jackson Lamb is maybe just a tisch overdone, (ok, a lot), but I didn't care.
There were more lines in those books that I wanted to steal since, wow, since I don't know when. When I re-read the series, it will be with pen and notebook in hand.

Ok, but: Jorma Kaukonen. No. Paul Heumiller. No. John Thomas. No. Tommy Emanuel drives me nuts. Todd, even I have heard of Jorma Kaukonen. And I have most certainly heard of Jefferson Airplane, and I know their songs well. At least the one about the rabbit. You surprise me. Well... ok, in fairness, I had no idea there was a connection between Jorma Kaukonen and Jefferson Airplane. Actually, the only member of Jefferson Airplane I can name off the top of my head is their lead singer, Cyndi Lauper. So, ok, I give you a pass on that one. As for Paul Heumiller and John Thomas, well, I guess I'm with you on those two. Never heard of them either. But, Tommy Emmanuel drives you nuts? Wow!... Well, ok, he drives me nuts, too. Why do you think I send Dave out for pizza every time he asks about why the Duck Band doesn't do any Tommy Emanuel tunes? The guy just plays way too many notes. (plus, we go through a lot of pizza) -edited in order to spell a person's name correctly... which a person deserves.

Don, if you have any trouble, or questions, in how to go about socializing Bailey, give me a call. I have managed, twice, the near impossible task of socializing a Golden Retriever. I am called "The Dog Whisperer" in these parts.
