Ran some errands this morning, drug store for some detergent and paper towels. Then the super for some foodstuffs.
And there's a bakery next door to that so I thought I'd pick up a loaf of bread. (I'm a muesli/granola person, but my wife likes toast in the morning.)
Had to skip it tho, since I didn't have my voter ID with me...

Hey, I’m younger than you! With myself, like with used cars, the concern is not just the age, but also the mileage. What does your odometer read? Uh-oh... You're not asking about body count, are you?

Several features of the Hays code meant that in the end the good guys would win, and the bad guys would lose. And some good guys, who were supposed to be good guys, could never be portrayed to be bad guys.

We paid uni costs out of pocket for our two, one to osaka and the other tokyo--only one year that they were both in school at the same time, and they worked a little for spending money.
Long ago my dad paid for most of my three sibs uni, and summer jobs were the norm. I went in the army first so the GI bill and some grants paid for mine and more (BA in three years and direct into grad school). Then an assistantship, which I turned down the first year since I still was getting GI bill money.
And for how expensive undergrad is, aren't grad programs pretty much all funded now, one way or another?

Are those "specialist workers" typically college-educated, or HS grads?
And i doubt anyone at this project will be working from home.

My memory might be blurry, due to certain things, but I don't remember long haired freaky people as being tattooed.

Getting into the reserves then was like winning the lottery. Nothing particularly wrong with that if you had the connections. (and iraq certainly changed that!)
As for air force and navy, maybe you 'dodged' being infantry, or being drafted into the marines, but you still served.
I had a cousin who joined the navy and became a corpsman. He was on a ship for most of it, but was then sent to vietnam, where he worked in a morgue prepping bodies for return to the US. (He's listed in the credits of Hearts and Minds.)
Safe work tho. No guns or even bullets nearby, and it was air conditioned, too

One comment I saw: it's how nonchalantly, unsurprised, and practiced his staff react to it, that apparently this is the norm and and they're used to it--not at all like this is only the second time it has happened.

A man who lost his hat decided the easiest way to replace it was to steal another one.
So he went to his local church in search of a hat. A sermon about the ten commandments was going on as he made his way to the cloakroom.
But as he walked, he paused, heard a brief bit of the sermon, and changed his mind.
The man stayed for the rest of the service, and then, upon seeing the pastor on the way out, the man greeted him, shook his hand, and said, "Father, I must say, your sermon saved me from doing something wrong. I came here with sin in my heart, but your sermon showed me the error of my ways.”
Delighted at hearing this, the pastor congratulated him and asked him what specifically made him change his mind.
...to which the man replied, "You see, I lost my hat and came here to steal one from the cloakroom. But when you got to the 'Thou shalt not commit adultery' part, I suddenly remembered where I left my hat."

"It is my turn to start the bachelor day count as my wife is going on an Alaska cruise: Seattle, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Victoria. I know she will have a great time, but I don't like being on the ocean or being stuck on a floating city." Some people are cruise people, some aren't. My wife and I agree that I'd feel like a prisoner and wouldn't be happy. "Stuck on a floating city" is a good way to put it. So, a song prompt? "Try that on a cruise ship"
