We owed thousands on our taxes. Can't say that I paid happily, but I was expecting it. We do like to owe a little, but not that much. I don't think we're going anywhere today. Mr. H has an eye injection tomorrow and it's the eye that he actually uses, so he's trying to get ahead of things in case he can't see well after the injection. I have laundry in the dryer. I had a dream about playing mando last night. That must mean that I've neglected it for too long. I should probably exercise the bass while I'm at it. I use turbotax to do my taxes and they have a tool to estimate what my quarterly needs to be. The 90% estimate usually gets you pretty close so you don’t have to pay much come April.

Good morning. The taxes are done. We owe the IRS $99. I think that's pretty good. My spouse thinks we're not withholding enough if we don't get money back. I'll handle this difference of opinion as I handle most of them, i.e., by capitulating. I have a doctor's appointment that would be handled by a phone call under a more sensible system. Oh well. Enjoy your day. Wordle 1,031 5/6* ⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟨🟨⬜⬜ 🟩⬜🟨⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 I’ve preached to our kids that the goal should be to always have to pay something at tax time. Never give them your money to hold for you. The goal being not to give them any more money than they have coming. So $99 payment is about as perfect as you can get.

Watching golf has got to be the epitome of boring. But I still find myself checking in on it.

Eric got us another gig for Apr. 26th at the Sun City Festival golf course restaurant. Nothing else significant going on today. Rocky’s recovery is proceeding nicely. He’s in his final week of his 30 day recovery. But because he can’t take oral steroids, he’ll still be getting drops for another week or two.

Rocky gets his 3 weeks checkup on his eye surgery today. The recovery is going very well and we should be able to reduce his drops protocol after today.
Eric got us another gig for May 30th. Same place as before, the Sun City Festival Wine Social. It pays $300, so it's worth it. We have developed a bit of fan base there now.
He's quitting his other band in May. Apparently he will be joined by the drummer and their female singer. I guess the band leader is both a real jerk and crappy guitar player. I don't know him personally, but I've heard them a couple times and do agree he's a pretty ordinary guitar player.
Our other daughter Traci is coming for a visit for a week mid May.

We drop Jill off at the airport this morning. She's returning to Virginia after staying for a week. Her kids will be happy to have her home again. Next up is the other daughter who will be visiting us in May.

I have been trying to sell my tablesaw and can’t even give it away. I am very close to just setting it out on the street on bulk pickup day. It’d be gone before the trash guys arrive. People drive around on bulk trash day to search for anything good.

Nice weather today with highs in the 80’s Rocky is recovering nicely and is seeing very well. He’s off all the stomach drugs as that issue seems to have resolved itself, but he’s on some new antibiotics just in case. Nothing going on today otherwise. Wordle 1,020 3/6

Clear skies today, temps top out around 80. Rocky has a checkup with internal medicine to check his liver now that he’s tapered off the steroids.
We may head over to the shooting range today to blow up some bullets. Most of our guns are only .22 calibers, but they’re fun to shoot.

Weather is pleasant today. Rocky goes in for another checkup today. He is seeing very well now. His eyes look clear and healthy. He's now tapered off the steroids, so I assume his liver is starting to recover. We'll get that checked again tomorrow. It'll be two weeks on Thurs. since his surgery, so he still has a couple more weeks of eye healing to go.

I’m guessing it was more a matter of his skills were not up to the point of putting in the emotion yet. Performance to that degree is the more advanced stage of learning a piece.

We have our daughter visiting for the week. She left the kids home with her husband. So her vacation if pretty much a break from her kids. Works for us. Glad to see her.
Rocky went in for blood work yesterday since it appeared he was not handling the steroids. Long story short, his liver function was WAY off and he is now on a fast taper of the steroids. His liver apparently just can't handle them. So now we have to consult with an internal medicine vet to monitor his liver to make sure it recovers. It is basically steroid induced liver cirrhosis but once the steroids stop, it should recover. A case of the cure being worse than the disease. The good news is that his eyes are looking good and he is seeing quite well.

Rocky goes in today for his 1 week checkup after his eye surgery. He is seeing quite well, but today for the first time he showed no interest in eating. I am convinced that it is the steroids that he is on. While they should increase his appetite, they are doing the opposite because it's effecting his liver. When he was on them from his autoimmune disorder, they wreaked havoc on his body. So seeing the vet today is the perfect time to get his meds adjusted and get the steroid tapering started.

The house is in maximum disarray with the new carpet being installed in all the bedrooms. I didn’t realize they remove everything from the rooms FIRST. It is 4PM and they are now just having lunch. It should have been a crew of 4 and they send 2. Apparently Lowes never gave the installers the pictures of the job. So they had no idea how much stuff needed to be moved.

We got at 5AM to give Rocky his drops and pills. His eyes are look really good and he’s seems to be seeing quite well. We kind of laugh because it’s funny to watch the expression he has in realizing that he can see again. Tomorrow the carpet installers arrive, so today we clear out all the stuff in 4 bedrooms except for the heavy stuff which we paid them to move. I had to collect up all the guitars and move them to the garage. The official count is 15. I need to sell some of this stuff.

Rocky is recovering from his cataract surgery yesterday. It was a LONG day yesterday and last night, but mostly from dealing with him on the drugs he was given during and post surgery. It took a full 12 hours for all that stuff to wear off. Just got back from his followup appointment. His eye pressure was normal and he was tracking with both eyes. They said everything looks good. We go back on a week. It is clear that he is already seeing better than with the cataract. He does not like the cone, but we take it off so he can eat, drink, and relieve himself. So he’s resigned to it.

Bensusan was a major inspiration for ambitious fingerstyle players in the 1970 and 80s--one of the reasons a lot of players took up DADGAD, Celtic style/repertory, and Lowdens. Maybe a bit less influential than John Renbourn in the States, but still a force. One of my earliest workshop memories is of a Bensusan session--at the start, he had everyone come up front and play a tune. I attempted "Anji," probably the most challenging piece I knew at the time, and I pretty much mimicked the Jansch version. Pierre said, "Why do you not play eet like zeese"? and proceeded to play it at a slower and very slinky tempo. My answer would have been, "Because I only know one way to play it." And 30-plus years on, I can almost manage the kind of transformation he wrought on the tune. Almost. (And as much as I love the music, I never did manage to learn the material from his early albums, published in his first book. DADGAD just makes my head hurt.) Bensusan has been quite influential in the fingerstyle community for decades. I remember first seeing him at fingerstyle festival at the University of Milwaukee in the early 80's. That event also had Leo Kottke performing. I attended one of his master class workshops in Wisconsin a couple decades back. He has us all sitting around in a circle and I had my guitar on my stomach and was leaning back in the chair. He apparently took exception to my crappy posture with the guitar and called me out on it. Made me sit up and get the guitar where it should be. I still find it humorous today. I have many of his CDs and also the book mentioned. I could never get into anything he published in that book. I didn't even like DADGAD all that much and that was exclusively what he played in. I found his compositions to sound more New Age. Some of his earliest stuff I really liked. Kind of an "open tuning classical guitarist".

We drop off Rocky tomorrow morning for his cataract surgery. We'll pick him up late afternoon and then bring him back Friday for a followup. We've been doing his drops protocol since Sunday. He's such a good boy, he doesn't mind the drops at all. That's a good sign, since he'll need to get the anti-inflammatory drops daily for the rest of his life. Rocky's pics
