We have a lot of Bauman pottery. I inherited a lot when my sister died, too, and have given some of that to friends so that it can be used, displayed, and appreciated. I don’t want it packed away in a box not seeing sunlight. Barb rotates our stuff depending on the time of year. We also have a lot of Bauman pottery and all of it is on display and/or being used to store stuff or serve stuff. The benefit of functional art is the functional part.

I saw this trailer recently and thought it would be a very interesting movie to see when it's released. The trailer for the Rob Reiner film called God and Country.

It looks like the Earth is developing cataracts. One way to stop global warming is to reduce the amount of light reaching the atmosphere. The Earth's growing "satallite cataract" could be a cure for global warming! You heard it here first folks.

I watch an embarrassingly large amount of TV programs because I tend to practice with the TV on. Pretty much since the pandemic lockdown it seems. The only thing I don’t do is watch anything live. It is virtually all prerecorded. Even to the degree of using the Dish 20 min record buffer. I’ll turn on a show, hit the pause button and come back a 1/2 hour later so I can zip through any commercials. I keep my guitars on a stand next to the chair and use that time to practice. I stare at the TV between songs.
And sadly the time between songs is getting longer and longer.

Good morning all. Linda and I are set to play a round of golf today. Highs in the mid 70’s I bought a new driver I want to try out.

I agree with Marshall on this one. The SBT is going to have that typical quack sound and the mic can’t make that better. I still prefer the mag mic design.

Atmospheric Rivers. They were very strong last year and brought in all the snowpack that gave the west a water reprieve. This year they aren’t suppose to be as strong, but they’re still there. I’ll settle for above average. This link to the NYT is one of my free gift links. No subscription required to read it. Atmospheric Rivers this year

Started to work on our taxes yesterday as all the tax statements are starting to show up. We pay every year, so it's only matter of how much. But I'll still wait until early April to actually pay them.
My sisters are coming to visit for a week in Feb. and it's forecast for rain every day they are here. Amazing that we get so little rain generally, but if you pick a week to visit..... I should avoid washing the car that week. It'll only make it worse.

It probably would be bad for the economy if it shut down entirely. The U.S. effort to bring chip production capability to U.S. doesn't need to be the most advanced chips to serve the vast majority of the market. Also, the cost per unit is irrelevant for military uses. The vast majority of silicon used by the military is not the most advanced. During COVID, when the auto companies couldn't get chips for their cars, these chips were not advanced chips, probably just run-of-mill microprocessors or custom ASICs. Basically, the vast majority of chips needed in the economy can be done with older semiconductor manufacturing equipment (not the blue light stuff). For commercial uses, cost per unit is more critical, but if TSMC virtually stopped production and there were higher cost alternatives, that wouldn't be a death blow to the economy.... just inflationary. So that's why these new plants in AZ and Ohio are important. Once they are able to take up doing these run-of-the mill chips, it reduces the risk to the economy from a TSMC shutdown.
As pointed out in the article though, unless or until TSMC shuts down, they need to be cost competitive to stay open.

I like the new bracing strategy and Teja notes the added volume it has probably because of it. I'm not a fan of maple backed guitars, as I find that it usually constrains the low end too much. Even in this demo, I would have liked to hear a more pronounced low end especially in that open tuning.

Funny Taylor would promote it as a vintage style amp (circa 74), but then use a Class D switching amp design and add bluetooth capability. Class D amps didn't become commercially viable until MOSFETs were developed in the late 70's and didn't show up in amps until the 80's.

I was making a meatloaf one night and I stuck it in the oven. I accidentally hit the self cleaning function. By the time I realized it, the oven was on the way up to surface of the sun temperature. I hit the shutdown, but the door was locked and could not be opened for about 20 minutes—until it reached a temperature that wasn’t lethal to humans. I was worried the meatloaf was going to burst into flames. It didn’t. Barb says I was panicking but I viewed it as being very concerned. When the door unlocked, I pulled the meatloaf out. It looked beautiful. I let it cool a moment and then sliced it. It was absolutely perfect. It was moist and flavorful. We had it for dinner and it was the best meatloaf I ever made. I always said I would use that method again, but Barb won’t let me. She said something about a fire hazard or stupid luck the first time. Who knows? Anyway, we use the function once every couple of years. Be sure to take the racks out or they will discolor. You might combine cleaning with a nice meatloaf dinner. I imagine the meatloaf was extremely clean as well.

Nova recently did a series of shows on the brain. The one that sticks out is the one on consciousness. Long story short is that it is believed to be a mechanism the brain needs to have to control sensory input. Kind of like the brain's operating system. Without some way for the brain to selectively decide what to focus on, it would quickly get sensory overload. It is easy to imagine how an octopus could evolve to have these basic abilities. Good morning to all. High's in the low 70's today, but rain for the next 3 days. Not much going on today except for a little shopping.
