I'm thinking that the word games, in order of difficulty, are: 1. Connections (I'm finally getting the hang of it and learning some tricks, but even though I am more often winning, I do so with the fourth category solved by default). 2. Strands (I even occasionally win without a hint) 3. Waffle But this morning I was looking at a Waffle board with everything but four unmoved letters -- none of them lit up. I was sure I'd lost. But I got it with 0 to spare. Don’t get me started. Oops, too late. I’ve never heard of Strands or Waffle as games and I probably don’t need any more than I already do. I think I may have introduced Wordle here but I rarely do it anymore. Fiddlerina does it every day and always gets it in three or four attempts. The puzzles I do are all NYT puzzles because I lack the incentive to find others. I do the NYT Crossword every day and Fiddlerina and I do the Spelling Bee thing that JohnB got us doing. I also like the three Sudoku puzzles and usually do at least the first two of those. I’ll do the third one in the evening if there’s time. We also do the Connections puzzle. Fiddlerina likes it. I find I rarely use up any mistakes and usually get it in a minute or two. For some reason, my head automatically makes connections between seemingly unrelated things. Maybe it’s the ADHD coming to my rescue again. Nearly everything people say in conversation causes my brain to dig up some long-forgotten phrase from a song or some 1940s radio jingle. That, in turn brings up another subject which brings up another and all of this before the speaker finishes a sentence. So when I see the grid of words in Connections, it just falls in place. I often get the purple category first unless, as often happens, the words have no sensible connection except in the imagination of the puzzle maker. That category is often pretty lame but it still gets solved by default if nothing else. On edit: Connections Puzzle #322 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦

Excellent. A really nice explanation. I haven’t yet watched the videos that started this thread but I went to TrueFire and did the first couple of lessons. Same information but with tips on technique and you get to watch his hands to see which fingers he’s using and how he approaches the transitions between shapes. That is really the critical information.

mo-husseini.medium.com/hmmm-do-i-need-a-title-129b27bed5f0 The language is as juvenile as the sentiment and the very thinly veiled moral equivalencies. Israel did not start the war. The war. War. Hamas did. We read with different eyes and understand from different foundations.

I grew up with lots of Jewish friends and classmates. I lived in several Jewish neighborhoods in Chicago where Jewish friends from college put me up until I found a place. I’ve sat shiva with Jewish friends. I feel very close to Jewish people in general.
I’ve known lots of Arabs and have had many middle eastern friends. My youngest daughter’s godfather is Palestinian, her godmother is Syrian. The Mother mosque of North America is in Cedar Rapids so we encounter many Muslims here. As a community, we are proud of that.
None of these people feel like “other” to me.
When any of the peoples of my friends are hurt, I feel a kind of hurt too. I want all their families to be prosperous and happy.
I strongly support the right of protest. I hate the practice of encouraging hate.
I think the Mo Husseini piece that James linked is spot on. It is clear and detailed. My views seem to align with his. I’ve decided to “follow” him on Medium.
I wish there was something of significance I could do.

I just learned that fiddler Gene Elders has passed. He died over a month ago but evidently, I haven't kept up. bluegrasstoday.com/gene-elders-passes/Gene had a remarkable career, most of which I didn't follow. But one night long, long ago our band was holding forth at our usual spot on Rosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, IL, When a young fellow we didn't know walked in with his fiddle and asked if he could sit in with us. His name was Gene Elders. I may still have a recording of some of that night. It was great fun.

I went to the walk-in clinic today. Got me some antibiotics for this sinus infection that has swamped me the last couple weeks. Here’s to kicking this thing out. Wishing you the best, Marshall.

I’ve been buying records from them for over 50 years. I started back when they only had a mimeographed, typewritten newsletter they’d send out listing what they had and you mailed in your order.
Last night I used the Web site to order a bunch of things they only had one of so as not to miss out.

County Sales has been a stalwart in traditional music for many decades. Sadly, it is now closing its doors forever. This is a huge loss for all of us who enjoy traditional music of all kinds. They are selling everything at a 40% discount until April 30. They will ship all orders placed by the close of business. Some items aren’t available anywhere else any more. countysales.com

Good afternoon. Back from kayaking on the Chassahowitzka River with my fellow Audubon folks. It was the first time I've been kayaking and now that I'm home I'm exhausted in a good way. Had some mishaps falling out of the kayak, the model my friend lent me had a very high center of gravity compared to the other kayaks in the group so that's my excuse..... Anyway, we saw some wood ducks, green heron's and limpkins, (all first-time sightings in my birding log), as well as an immature bald eagle, a grown-up eagle, some ospreys, pelicans and ibis. The coolest bird sighting was an anhinga who was diving for fish and surfacing right next to our kayaks as we were paddling along. We also came across a group of about 8 manatees with calves feeding on the water grasses. Quite an excellent morning's expedition. Good stuff! I think I'll spend the rest of the day recuperating and messing around on my guitars. Have a great day. Ken, I confess I’ve always thought that Florida would be a horrible place to live, but reading your posts makes me think it might be terrific after all. Who knew?

The last thing I remember Polonius saying was “Oh, I am slain.” You were there??? Yes and it was the only time I visited Denmark.

One of my faves is the Rice and Skaggs album. Tasty. Here’s a cut- I bought that album when it was first released. You probably did too. That is one of best albums ever made. Everything is spot-on perfect. The tunes are all remakes of older recordings by their heroes. They are done almost exactly like the originals except… they are way better. Other contenders for Best Album Ever include The Merle Travis Guitar (the yellow album), and The Bluegrass Album which again pays homage to the recordings that created bluegrass music.

As one would expect, Molly does a great job of explaining this stuff. Proper bluegrass rhythm guitar is hard and takes time to master. It isn’t just strumming chords along with the band, though a lot of people not steeped in bluegrass seem to think it is.
Playing a 1st position G chord replacing the treble 3rd with a 5th began, as I recall, in the late ‘70s. First generation players like Lester Flatt, Carter Stanley, et al., mostly played the B string open. They usually weren’t striking the B string hard enough to notice the difference.

Morning. Did someone break the Soundhole yesterday? Could not get it to load last night. Well, it’s back now. I had that problem too. I’d get an unformatted typewriter text message saying it failed to connect. I tried both iPad and iPhone with different browsers to no avail. When I used network utilities to see if the ProBoards site was up they determined that it was. I even tried with and without VPN. I went downstairs and used my iMac (without VPN) and there was no problem. I got in fine. I didn’t update any software so I’m guessing there was a glitch in a router somewhere. ProBoards itself seemed unaffected so it was in the networking somewhere. As you say, it’s OK today.

One thing you don’t want in a turntable base is anything that conducts vibration. I’m thinking that tonewood might not be a good choice.
