Beautiful morning, rain in the forecast. Edward Jones, party/dinner tonight.
I think it's time to get the "good" Martin out of the humidity controlled winter resting spot and see what it sounds like after it's hibernation.
Got my new washing machine yesterday, did a short, 12 mile, bike ride and mowed lawn.

I'm sitting in my recliner, watching the birds outside, on this sunny morning. Purple finches are building a nest on the nesting platform that I put up.
I noticed yesterday, driving to Vinton, that the corn is starting to show up and corn rows are visible.
My New washing machine is supposed to arrive today at 11:00 A M, might have time for a bike ride this afternoon.

We had a line of thunder storms pass through around 4:00 this morning, some rain but not a lot.
BLT for breakfast. I picked asparagus this morning and checked the new battery in my zero turn, it's fully charged.
Music practice starts at 11:30, still time for a little more coffee

The day started with a trip to Elderly, followed by a trip down Elderly's front steps. No casualties but the pair of pants I was wearing, with about an hour to go before Aunt Patricia's memorial service. Luckily there was a Walgreens nearby to take care of the knees. As I was lamenting having to wear jeans to the service, Erin texted, "isn't there any place you could go to get a pair of pants?" I texted back, "not right before the service, and besides, I'm not exactly off the rack, except at the fat guy store." Inspiration struck, there was a fat guy store only a mile and a half away. I made it with a decent pair of pants with many minutes to spare. Mini crisis averted, and the only long-lasting damage appears to be to my pride. I originally took this picture for the sculpture, but I realized later it also reveals the scene of the crime. Glad you are ok. I always use the ramp at Elderly. I figure if I fall, I will roll harmlessly into the bushes. I am not sure at what age the doctor added “Any falls?” to the yearly checkup. First time he did it, I said to Barb, he must think I am clumsy. No, she said, he thinks you are old. I ve had that, "have you fallen in the past year", question for several years now. A couple years ago I answered "yes". How many times, "2". In the exam room the Dr/nurse was all excited, "tell us about your falls". OK, I was skiing a Breckenridge, I'd just gotten off the Imperial lift, just under 13,000 ft elevation. I dropped into the Imperial bowl, double black, it was really rough and I fell. Second time I went over a drop off, ski slid out and I went down. The only damage was to my pride. They both just sat and stared at me.

I'm sitting looking out the window at a beautiful Bass Lake, drinking coffee.
SIL's 60th birthday party yesterday was a great success. I'll head for home late this afternoon. I need to go shopping for a new washing machine tomorrow.

As Todd said, it's a beautiful day.
The car is loaded and I'm about ready to head for Wisconsin to help SIL celebrate his 60th birthday.
On my way to Wisconsin I'll stop at a friend's farm and hunt the elusive morels.

Yesterday at 10:00 AM I turned my rock cooker off. I just got done unloading it, 26 hrs later, the sand was still hot. It looks like the heat did what it was supposed to do. I did one test, took off a big flake, and it broke easily and cleanly, with a nice overshoot across a 3.5 inch rock.
I have a nice cut on my thumb to show for my effort.
Lawn mowing this afternoon.

Beautiful morning here, I'll be doing a bike ride later.
Granddaughter, just finishing her first year at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, just scored a great summer internship at Epic Systems. She can also continue to work part time when school starts next fall if she wants. Epic Systems is the Medical software company. Her mother, my daughter, is a long time employee at Epic.
First batch of rocks cooked in my new rock cooker should be done today. Anxious to check the results.

Looks like we'll have a nice couple days here. I need to get out and cut up some small trees and branches in my "back 40" that have been laying in piles since last fall. I shall call this task "Fun with chainsaws".

It's raining, probably rain all day. That's good. I'm going to be doing a lot of resting today, yesterday was hectic.
We (my daughter and SIL) met me at the cabin yesterday, we got the water on, everything checked out. SIL spent an hour with the leaf blower.
Mid afternoon we returned to my place, then met friends in Cedar Rapids for dinner, then to their home for a brief visit before heading down town to the CSPS hall. The Awful Purdies were playing there last night. They put on a good show, it was fun, but it was also late when we got home.
Daughter and SIL how now left for their home in Wisconsin and I'm free to rest, and rest I will.

Paleo - by any chance is the local chert from the Burlington-Keokuk limestone formation? (Burlington and Keokuk are "type localities" for a heavily chert-laden carbonate formation) While living in Missouri I had several projects in the Burlington-Keokuk. It is brutal on drilling equipment. On one particular large government project, the drillers effectively blamed us for the fact that rock is hard. I'm familiar with the Burlington chert, I believe it's a little softer than what I use. I believe what I'm using is primarily Hopkinton chert, named for a small town between Delhi and Monticello, Iowa. That's what I've been told by the University of Iowa archeologists. It might be a subset, I've found some that is quite unique, white with gray stripes. It's very high quality. University archeologists were aware of the stone but didn't know the source until I told them.
