I can only think of two reasons to go to war. 1. To take something the other guy has (land, money, resources etc.) 2. The barbarians are at the door
Most any other reason is BS.
For #1 you need a country behind stealing what ever, (example: starving population because of lack of arable land, take land) For #2 you need a country that believes losing means death or slavery for the entire population.
Not judgement but sending people to die takes a really big commitment. And it should be a really big commitment by the population (in the US represented by the Congress). And winning should give something to the people. In #2 you are still alive, in #1 you share in the something the other guy had.
Both have grey areas. How close do the barbarians have to be before you consider them knocking at the door. (domino theory) We fought Indians for land and we gave away a lot of that land to the people "sharing in the spoils" I think you could bend that "sharing in the spoils" a lot. Is Wall Street booms and the rest hangs on so the country is better off, is that "sharing in the spoils", I'm guessing it depends on what politician is speaking.
Ran my mouth too long, sorry.

Never risk the lives of your troops unless the country is committed to doing what ever it takes to win. In war winning is the only thing that matters.

3rd or 4th guy sitting in that chair with the same problem. Only two military solutions, get the fuck out or kill them all (and even the Russians wouldn't do that). The military's job is to destroy things not build things. At least Obama made a decision. Remember the troop surge in 2009? Thirty-thousand troops to shock the Taliban into submission? We can debate whether it was a good idea or not, but at least it was a decision. 30 thousand lives risked for political gain not for a military solution.

OK, now this is getting a little kinky. Butter isn't kinky, Zappa wanted to smother that girl with chocolate syrup.

Torn between jealousy of your time in Swananoa, and sadness over your 27th anniversary. No one should have to lose their child. Devastating. Say hi to Ray. Thanks, Doc, but I am far from alone in this regrettable club, even here -- OMG, Evan, and TerryK and several others. I choose to mention Erica from time to time not out of a desire for sympathy, but merely to keep her memory alive. As for me and the loss, it's an assimilation and I now look upon her 6-year life as complete and rich, because it was, and we all have a finite period here and it's not how long we live but what we did with our lives. She did a LOT, believe me. Funny thing, today I was listening to WNCW, my beloved Blueridge Mountain station, and they were playing some Leadbelly tunes to mark the anniversary date of his being let out of prison. Those songs were recorded shortly after his release, and they were preserved thanks to the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, so of course, my mind went directly to Dick Thaxter, that warm and wonderful and wise man ... sigh, sigh, sigh. For some reason, I scrolled through my short list of phone contacts stored in my steam-powered flip phone the other day, and ran across a listing for Dad, and for Dick Thaxter, and for Lonnie. They may be binary bits of data on a microchip, but I will never erase them, even though I can no longer call them. Bill, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that. I still have Dick Thaxter, Lonnie and my mother in my email book, and there they will stay.

I think if we are going to build nuke plants they should be small and not try to feed electricity to such a wide area. Build them the size of the plants on a sub. Power a small city not multiple states.

I'z here Here be home Niki is thrilled that we are home. Sy is happy that we are home but pretending she doesn't care Niki is greyer than when we left. The plumber is coming at 6:30 Fri morning so turned the water back on and will just pay for the extra water pumped out of the irrigation system that won't shut off. Flushing and showering are important. Monsoon arrived 1/2 hour after us. 45mph winds and rain. Glad to be home. Will finish unloading the car in the morning. 2894 miles and the Escape got 27.1mpg.

*The Squirrels vs. The Church*
The Presbyterian church called a meeting to decide what to do about their
squirrels. After much prayer and consideration, they concluded the
squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with
God's divine will.
At the Baptist church the squirrels had taken an interest in the
baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a water slide on the
baptistery and let the squirrels drown themselves. The squirrels liked the
slide and, unfortunately, knew instinctively how to swim so twice as many
squirrels showed up the following week.
The Methodist church decided that they were not in a position to harm any
of God's creatures. So, they humanely trapped their squirrels and set them
free near the Baptist Church. Two weeks later the squirrels were back when
the Baptists took down the water slide.
But the Catholic Church came up with a very creative strategy. They
baptized all the squirrels and consecrated them as members of the church.
Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter.
Not much was heard from the Jewish synagogue; they took the first squirrel
and circumcised him. They haven't seen a squirrel since.

I'z here. Here be Fallon NV Had a great drive through the mountains from Weed CA, through Susanville to Reno then Fallon. Started out in the shadow of Mt. Shasta and then by Lake Shasta. Weed CA is a nice little town. Susanville is a nice little town but they both have winter so not a place to live. Should be home tomorrow afternoon, to deal with the water leak.

If you used 5.56 casings you could be looking at an IPO next year. I don't understand that. I used .223 brass cut off on both ends to make bushings for the swing arm lamp I made. so I guess you could do that for the brass part of the string winders.

David was a great host. Chris too is kicking herself for not taking pictures. It's Mark's fault that I turned Tammy's face red. I was going to play "Baby Ran Off With Her Vibrator" but Mark insisted on Itty Bitty Titty.
