If I were to dwell on it for more than a few minutes, I would begin to get a little pissed. I read this somewhere almost from day two of his death. And now after the country is split apart even more than it was and cities have been set on fire and at least four cops killed and countless injuries to LEO and civilians.... this hits the news. I'm sorry.. that's not an oversight. OK, getting a little upset, leaving this alone. Hold your horses -- the Star Tribune reported a couple days after Floyd's death that he and the cop sometimes worked security at the same nightspot, although it was not known if they ever worked there at the same time. We interviewed the owner, who explained that on a typical night there would be six security people, some inside, some outside, and the pool of workers from which to hire was fairly large. We asked her specifically if the two knew each other, if they would recognize each other, and she said she did not know. Now, I don't know if we did any more reporting on that angle or not (there are so many angles in this story and only so many reporters) but if you and John are suggesting that for some reason this latest wrinkle is something we knew and deliberately sat on for X number of days, well, I would disabuse you of that notion. Why would we do that? We do this every now and then but it bears repeating occasionally. Nothing I ever say about the news media bears any reference to the Strib. I read somewhere that the cop and Floyd had a connection but I don't remember where. It probably wasn't the Strib. The information was out there. What I am talking about is the all pervading, constant bombardment on every news show about his death and that it was systemic racism, brutal cops, riots, hearings, proposals to defund the police, on and on and on. That they worked together and had a history, not a peep. That information was in newspaper articles here and there, yes. But although the country has been completely covered with the Floyd tragedy, it was only yesterday (I think) that a major TV news network put it on the air? Why wasn't this bit of information a part of almost every on-air news report? Why just now? Isn't it germane to what happened to Floyd? Yes I think the heads of CNN, MSNBC, and others sat on the story. Do I know for sure? Hell no, I'm just a dumb-ass surveyor from Mississippi. Did WaPo or the NYT write articles exploring this angle of the story? They might have... I dunno. Somebody will have to let me know. It should have been a part of every report in some manner. Instead it was 100 percent attributed to "Institutional Racism". Period. Better not question that judgement or you are a racist yourself. Why would the organizations listed above "sit on the story" or not make it part of their reporting on Floyd until now? We don't want to go there. You are my friend and have already told me that it makes your blood boil. I am a layman and you are a professional and I know that if you started pontificating on the finer points of a least squares adjustment vs. compass rule I might raise an eyebrow. But... it seems so obvious to me that the personal connection between the two men was important and that it would have weakened the narrative that a large portion of the population wanted to get set in stone. And therefore it got temporarily spiked. My $0.02. Peace, my brother.

New York City cops held a press conference and seemed pretty upset for some reason. I can't imagine why. The upside of the press conference that it took them away from all the oppressing and brutalizing for a few hours.

Baby Dottir has very much bought into the latest group think and was pointing out the various incidents that have been dominating the news as the underpinning for the protests, riots, making over the PD's, etc. I told her we do not agree on the either the justification or the "remedy". I also told her that when she gets to be my age and most of the cities in America are dangerous, hollowed out shells to remember that her dad told her this was going to be the result of her getting what she wants now. Just my $0.02. My kids are much the same way, although now that my daughter is older and has a real redneck ex-military badass fiance and a quasi-police job, she's rapidly becoming more realistic. I tell them that when we brought them to Virginia they were the same age as when my parents took us to Detroit which has always been a gutted hell hole dominated by crazy ass mayors (largely black) for life. These folks that are pushing so hard to go that way will meet a predictable fate. Next up will be the outright fleeing of anyone who can scrape together two nickels to get the hell out which will be followed by the complete cratering of the tax base and from there an empty shell of a city occupied primarily by squatters and those that can't leave. Eventually they'll start shrinking the practical boundaries of the city creating a massive, lawless borderland where anything goes. Including burning abandoned buildings for sport. Y'all write this down. It'll happen. My wife in the meantime is really worried about Antifa threats to move out to places like where we live now. All 4500 of us. Part of our music career has involved playing in wineries and such out in these gorgeous hills of Virginia and West Virginia. We were privy to the informal militia meetings where they discussed what happens when DC obliterates itself. Unfortunately for the city folk, they have no capacity to be self sufficient. If commerce stops moving for whatever reason, they've got approximately 24 hours or so of vital provisions in house. You want to see what real rioting looks like? Start starving. Now I'm absolutely sure that the folks out here will be more than happy to help in any way practical. It's what we do. But 70 miles is a long way to walk to come steal from us. And we've got guns. Lots of them. No, not real worried about those dipshits. It's their funeral. You pitching to be the opening act for John and Bruce? ;-)

When you two take this comedy act on the road, I promise that when you come to New York I'll buy a ticket and come see you. There may not be enough people living in New York to fill a decent tool shed much less a serious theater. Such is the nature of crying wolf too damn loudly. Yup, just another step on the road to Communist dictatorship. It follows rewriting history, reinterpreting the Constitution and eliminating institutions. Just following Obama's plan to fundamentally change the country. When you two take this comedy act on the road, I promise that when you come to New York I'll buy a ticket and come see you. OTOH, a couple of years ago they also said that there were major problems with the whole "Russia Collusion" deal. I think I remember they were dissed about that also. Just sayin....

Alan, the affection is reciprocated. I don't see myself as morally superior and I don't have a "tribe" except in the rhetoric of people who dislike my views. I've criticized Trump here at times because I think his conducts merits criticism. I didn't like Bill Clinton and I was critical of him as well, although that was pre-Soundhole. As I've said here, I think Trump has had a lot of good people supporting him for reasons that I have no trouble understanding. I think they deserve a much better frontman. I wish you the best as always. I have seen several posts with that sentiment and either shrugged it off or erased the post before sending. Now I wish I had erased one more before hitting the button. It just really doesn't matter so much after I have time to think about it. Oh well, it's up here and there is nothing I can do about it now.

I see a lot of despicable. I could comment endlessly on what I think is despicable about high profile Democrats, Obama's FBI, State Department, Intelligence agencies, & Atty Generals (and by their actions on his behalf or his instructions, him personally). I could comment almost daily on what I see as despicable behavior by WaPo, NYT, CNN, & MSNBC.
I forebear because I have met and sincerely have affection for many of you who don't share my views about what is despicable.
I personally don't care for it when I see someone positing their opinions and then ascribing to themselves or their tribe a moral superiority because of that opinion. Or conversely painting the "others" as having something wrong with them because they don't hate Trump as much as they should (or do hate DJT).
I'm not saying Rob did that... well not far from it... but no biggie. I think several of you have been propagandized by the rogue's gallery listed above. That's my opinion but I don't think it makes me a bad person or imputes to me one smidgen of virtue. It's just an opinion.
I see a lot more things to despise that the stupid shit he says almost daily. But that's just me.

Moving rocks in the hot sun. That was yesterday. The local gravel pit sells 4"-10" rocks for $40 a ton and we went and loaded up a ton to line some garden beds yesterday. You and Dar loaded and transported a ton of rocks?!?!? Only 15 more to go....

Greetings from Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL. It is on top of a "mountain" just east of HV. I put quotes on it as by Western standards it's barely a foothill but in Alabama it's a mountain. Doesn't matter that it's not the Rockies or the Sierra Nevada to someone who has been stuck in friggin Orlando for months, it's an alpine paradise.
We await the arrival of Baby Dottir and her SO. Faithful Wife is an organizer and make-it-work-somehow genius. The young couple have many obstacles to overcome: short notice, existing apartment lease, old car, two large dogs, strange new town, on and on the list goes. Lucky for them Little Red is on their team. I am next to useless so it's good she can take up my slack.
Anyway, gotta work, phone is blowing up and cell service is spotty.
Laters...

I wonder if there are any surviving POW sets? I think there's one at the WWII museum in New Orleans. Somehow I missed that in my prior three or four visits.

Relocated Californians? You associate with relocated Californians? Aren't they the new "Pariahs of the West"? Not when they order Very Expensive Doors for their Very Expensive Log Homes. Ohhh... those Californians. Yes, they are the salt of the earth. Everybody loves them.

Back to food. I could put 20 or 30 pounds on you in no time. We would hit a few local catfish places, eat some fried pickles, oysters, fish fillets, & hush puppies all washed down with way-too-sweet tea. Next day go to any number of local restaurants or gas stations even for a foot long shrimp po-boy (or maybe a soft shell crab if they have them). Then go to Copelands for crawfish tails in their special sauce sopping it up with slices of toasted french bread. Then a crawfish boil or two.
We haven't even started on the numerous varieties of gumbo. I gained a pound just typing this.

We are ensconced in an RV park in Tupelo, MS. We were going home but Baby Dottir's SO has gotten a transfer to Huntsville, AL so we are going there tomorrow to wait for her and Fabian (his real name). We will spend the weekend with them so FW can help Baby Dottir look at apartments, discuss big life moves, and all that grown-up stuff.
She will try to transfer her base to Boston, live in Huntsville, and drive to Nashville to catch her flights. I don't know how that will work but they will have to make it work somehow. I'm sure all you guys have kids and grandkids doing the same thing: Working out those life problems like we did decades ago.
